    Canon EOS 30D

OK, so I got my xmas bonus today and just ordered a Canon Eos 30D... I have the original Canon digital rebel from about 3 years ago and have loved it. Lots of excellent photos. Now I am stepping it up to the 30D. I decided to go ahead and get the 17-85 IS lens with it as well. I have heard good things about that lens and the IS. Plus I didn't have enough $$$ to go ahead and get the 24-105 L series lens. Now I can save up to get the 100-400 L series...

Fabulous camera. You're going to love it! I am so impressed with mine. I just wished the quality lenses weren't so darned expensive.

No kidding... I am finally to that point in life I can at least plan on getting the quality lenses, but I still have to save for them!

You have one? Any items/accessories you think are absolutely needed I should pick up right away. I ordered a 2 gb card, haze filter and extra battery with it as well...

Did you get the new ultra-ultra high speed 2 GB card? That's the one I got, and it's FAST.

I just have the two lenses - the 28-80 Canon, along with a 100-300 Sigma, and some UV filters to protect them.

I've only had it for about a month, but the more I use it the more impressed I am.

I was thinking about the prices of these 2 GB CF cards the other day, while remembering when I started at my current company and was helping them get some PC's set up. A great deal I found on RAM was $40.00 per megabyte. 2 GB would have been what, $80,000.00? That was in 1993 or 1994. Wow.

Very nice, T-One. As nhff can tell you, I have been picking his brain extensively this week for advice on a new digital SLR for my wife as a Christmas gift. I haven't completely made up my mind yet, but the 30D is where we landed.

    LOL!

I just got done placing my phone order with B&H. Got the Canon EOS 5D, Sandisk Extreme III 4gb card, Canon 580EX flash, Sigma 24-70 lense/Hoya UV filter, lense cleaning kit, and LowePro shoulder bag.

I'm not into photography, so I don't know what in the hell I just ordered, but NH tells me I done my wife good.

    Now in stereo
    Visionaries say "Yes, we can."
    Engineers say "Not so fast."

Expound, please. Is that not considered a decent equipment bag, in your opinion?

whew yeah! I'd say so. Call them and order me a set too

Still on my list is a 430EX flash, I don't need the awesome power of the 580.
I also plan on getting a nice L series telephoto lens to be able to go to VIR and Martinsville etc and get some nice action shots.

Trust me, she doesn't *need* anything near this level of quality, she just likes to think she does. But I did go a bit overboard, in hopes of getting a few extra brownie points.

While she can't extract all that her current camera has to offer, neither can I extract (nowhere near) all that my two current motorcycles have to offer. See the logic? LOL

With that quality, you may not be able to get the best out of it, but what you will get is soooo much better than any type of p&s out there it does not compare. Anyone can take beautiful photos with that set up

Every function optimized for fast RAW and JPEG capture
User-selectable high-speed and low-speed continuous shooting at 5 fps or 3 fps - up to 30 (JPEG), 11 (RAW) or 9 (RAW+JPEG) consecutive frames when set at 5 fps and fast 0.15-second startup time

This is what I am really excited about taking this camera to the track...

That's one of my favorite features so far. I've had some pretty good digital cameras over the last few years, but none that could shoot rapid fire like that. It's really cool.

So you decided to bite the bullet and get the 580 huh? She's going to be psyched, dude.

Should I mention what mine can do?

I got bored at work today so I started writing up and photography thing for the articles section. Hopefully I can get it done pretty soon.

Even badly set up photos will still be sharp and nicer than a p&S
