Because of the melting of glaciers and polar ice, and because water expands as it warms, oceans are rising.

First off.... I didn't realize water expanded when it warms...

Second, its been a while since I took physics, but when ice melts doesn't the level of water stay the same due to density differences and amount of water displaced?

Actually, water expands when it freezes. Why do you think they invented antifreeze? As for the rising ocean levels, I'm guessing that would due to a lot of the ice melting being from above the surface?

They are correct, as water melts, the water level rises. But my question is, what does this has to do with sports??

I noticed a similar report on ESPN.com once. It had some miniscule tie-in to a sport so it was put up there. I think it was about some rapper or hip hop concert. It must have been a slow news day.

You won't find it so funny when a massive earthquake and tidal wave caused by global warming (like the one in Indonesia) swallows the entire east coast.

Then the global warming hurricanes (like Katrina) will start to pound whatever is left.

I hope the pamphlets describe in detail, PowerPoint style, how humans caused the gavitational forces of the earth and sun to shift and thus are sucking in said killer asteroids at an alarming rate.

there's this angry global warming commercial on the radio I hear all the time. in it they blame global warming for polar bears drowning among other ridiculousness.

It all depends on how full of fluid the glass is. If the glass is nearly full of fluid and ice, practically none of the ice is above the fluid, and when it melts, it releases the trapped air. But when the fluid level is near the bottom, and much of the ice is above the level of the fluid, as the ice melts, you will notice the fluid level rising...

Okay.... you got me there, but in the case with much of the ice above the water the ice would also have to be supported by the cup and not just simply floating.

If you relate that to oceans vs iceburgs... Wouldn't it be the one with a little bit of ice and alotta water?
