300 (the movie)

Well, I saw "300" last night, and though it wasn't quite what I expected, I thought it was great! I won't give away too much, but it wasn't as much like "Sin City" as I thought it would be. Still, tons of action, bloody, etc. A bit weird at times too...

A guy I work with also works for Warner Bros. so he does all the pre-screenings of their movies in this area. It's pretty cool to see a movie before it actually comes out, and to see it for free!

Anyway, if you liked Sin City I'm sure you'll like this movie. In fact, if you're into bloody action, you'll like this movie.

Re: 300 (the movie)

Just got back from the movie. What a day!! 70 degrees so the wife and I rode to see it. First ride in months and a good movie.

The only thing I'll give away about the movie is that the trailers lead you to believe it will be almost fantasy-like but it's not (good call, deftones). If you're like me and were thinking of avoiding the movie because you're a purist, historian-type, don't. You won't be disappointed.

And if you're a true purist, historian-type, the History Channel is running The Last Stand of the 300. A two hour documentary () on the battle that encompasses Leonidas' 300 and the Greek naval contribution to keeping the Persian naval forces from passing by sea. It's running again Saturday at 5pm eastern time.

Good points. It should be noted that it's defintely not historically accurate. It takes a basic story and embellishes things to make for an exciting movie!

Not accurate is right. Those greegy boys don't even have their armor on. I quess that would hide all of their big muscles.

The movie was based a comic written about the battle so some details are a bit off.

I would rather have the movie based on Steven Pressfields novel "Gates of fire". If you like the movie read that book.

I'm still going, can't wait.

That's what I was originally hoping for too.

Pressfield is a major speaker on the History Channel special. I watched most of it last night but became distracted sometime around 10pm.

My wife isn't as much of a history buff as I am but she did present extremely thoughtful, well articulated arguments against watching the rest of the show.

Re: 300 (the movie)

Just got back from watching it. Pretty good flick. Definitely a couple of oddities in there but overall very entertaining.

I saw it in IMAX. It was a very entertaining movie.

I have to admit, I was cracking up when he pushed those idiots down the well.

Before you speak, know, everyone is responsible for what they say in Sparta!

I loved the "good we'll fight in the shade" quip too.
