Headphones

At the risk of sending some off the deep end....

I have some Sennheiser SD570 headphones that I have really enjoyed but the cord is going for the second time so I am thinking of replacing them. I want a decent set of headphones that are NOT earpuds or wide open. I use them for music AND blocking out the large amount of chaos in my work area so they need to be over the ear, light and comfy.

Any recommendations? Is the HD595 similar?

Oops and under $200 is nice

If you want to drown out noise, custom ear buds are your best bet. Sensaphonics / Products / Personal Listening

Mine cut about 26db - same as ear plugs. They seal well enough that I've worn them at the shooting range, too.

I have a pair of HD595, and they are sensational. But, they are open back design. Somebody could whisper to you through them. so they would be a horrible choice for what you need.

BTW, I used to be VERY adverse to earbuds. I could never get the damn things to fit in my ears properly. And most of them sounded like shit.

BUT! I've been VERY happily using these at work for well over a year now.

They fit perfectly, and for being so cheap they sound just as good as some of the $100+ pairs that I have auditioned in the past. I'd highly recommend you at least give them some consideration. They are pretty outstanding, and block out almost anything short of a jet engine.

I too used to hate ear buds and head phones as they hurt my ears but I found some ear buds at walmart of all places that have a foam material like earplugs that I can wear all day for a few days in a row. The dumb ass I-pod ear buds hurt my ears after about a hour.

I work in labs and enclosers mostly by myself and music makes the day go by a lot faster. I need a larger I-pod though I have about 6g of music and only have a 4g pod.

I tossed every pair of iPuds back in the box. I have some gym headphones but will miss my Sennheisers even with crappy iPod sound (gratuitous Abtech suckup) but mine is a 160GB

I have lots of music, a few games and video from every track I have ridden except TGP (sooon vedy sooon)

Yeah, the JVC's I have have that "memory foam" material. They wear out about every 6-8 months, but that's not bad considering how cheap they are and that they come with an extra set when you buy them.

Used the same pair for over 10 years now, every single gig. They do a great job of blocking.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro @ HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears

I use these for remote recording and they have excellent isolation and will tear your head off in terms of level.

B&H has them for less than half that price BTW.
