I HATE Nextel
I HATE Nextel. Half of my calls (no exxageration) are either dropped in the middle...silence...and or broken up...and this is everywhere I go. The only reason I keep them is because of the free incoming and the direct connect. I am going to move over to the Sprint Network to save my free incoming...does any one else have the same problems with them.

I had them several years ago through my employer and hated every minute of it for very much the same reason.

I call every month to get credits and they have the nerve to say every single month, " this is going to be the last one..." Give me good service and I wont call every month. I got three messages this morning that were left from last night...as well as 15 emails from the day before ( I have the Blackberry Data plan as well)...Im glad that none were time sensitive.

The only problem with that is I use about 6000 mins per month...I currently get nights starting at 6...free mobile to mobile...and free incoming...plus 1000 peak mins. I cant beat the plan...even though half those minutes I am saying..."Can you hear me now??"

Either Verizon or Cingular. It all depends on what location you are in and the coverage they have. We switched over to Cingular at work from Verizon due to dropped calls and no service, but we are in the hills and hollars and cell reception sucks to say the least but since the change it has been better. Nextel is just a step above 2 tin cans and a string if you ask me. I had one when I was over the road and no kidding I went wiothouit service for a day and a half in the north west and was talking the whole time on my Verizon phone. Finally the boss called and was irate with me for not calling in, I told him to change to something that works and quit being a cheap bastard.

Wow, that is weird for Cing to top out Verizon, I know here Verizon is like having my home cordless phone with me everywhere...Cingular is like back in 91 using a brick phone when there were 3 cell towers in the state.

Most of the time I wouldn't even bother charging it. Now my work phone goes through Alltel which is terrible where I live too. Don't charge that phone much either.
Verizon for my personal phone works great.

i have us cellular, i very rarely loose calls and vary rarely dont have a signal. i live in a area that is rural, and it seems to be the only provider that works worth a damn. my buddy has nextel and its junk. i had sprint and they were junk also. i could sit in my house and loose signal.

Opposite here. I gave my Verizon company phone back a year ago and started using my personal Cingular because that's what I was doing anyway and didn't want to carry 2 phones for no reason.

They sponsor NASCAR !!! ...you mean I am part responsible for the proliferation of...cars driving in circles...responsible for uneven wear on right side tires...for drivers that have their heads permanently stuck to the left for the lack of looking right...oh wait...I had a NASCAR Nextel phone...

My Nextel phone goes from full signal to none in a blink of an eye...while I am standing still...I currently am not able to send text messages...and I just lost another call...

Isn't Nextel owned by Sprint? Are their networks not one and the same?
I don't think it's even referred to as Nextel out here any longer, just Sprint.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

From what I understand they are the same company but on different types of networks. I did a little research and from I found the reason NExtel merged with Sprint is because the government ordered Nextel to abandon their network by 200? because their frequency is close one the government uses. Somehow they determined that a merger with Sprint would work best for them. Even though I see ads in the mail about Nextel increasing its network, the consensus is that Nextel isnt really expanding their network since they will have to abandon it in a few years. Hence the bad service. There are entire forums about this.

There is a new dual-network phone that works for Sprint and Nextel users...(so actally a quad network phone - not to be confused with quad-band).
They are attempting to bridge the gap but they are a seperate network entirely.

I had Nextel for several years. Constant promises that they were upgrading their service, and all that ever happened was it got worse!
Move on! Cingular or Verizon

I was told by my Sprint salesman that the Sprint Nextel combo phones out now are the first ones out and are short on features. No bluetooth and no analog roaming at the present time. Hold off for better phones!

Actually don't, just go get a KRZR at Verizon or Cingular that already has all these features, and get a working service as a bonus

thats weird because in the 5 years I've had Cingular I've had service just about everywhere from here up to Maine and down to DC. the only place I don't get service where I go right now is inside the warehouse at work.
I could get a Nextel from work but they were lazy about it when I started the job and since I hate nextel I didn't even ask for it once it did come in. I just use my personal phone since I know it has service all the time and since I never come close to using the minutes I have. I have to call my boss twice a night, each time I have to wait for "please hold while the nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located" If I had the nextel it probably would have went out the window a long time ago.
