Destin Suggestions?

Brooke and myself are taking the bikes from Atlanta to Destin to meet up with some other folks and spend the weekend. Anyone have any "must to-dos" down there? I used to go down there every year in high school, but thats been 6-7 years.

Any tips, restaurants, fun activities that we gotta do , let me know!

Its also gonna be Brooke's first roadtrip on the bikes, so wish her luck!

MrsSeamus, DoubleDan and I were just down that way (FT Walton) for Memorial Weekend. We rode down from Dothan, AL and there's not much in the way of twisties, or even curves, but the roads are clean and smooth so it's a good ride for someone newer to riding. Where are you staying (can PM if you don't want everyone peeping on ya)?

I have to go look up the name of the bar. (Howl at the Moon is in FT Walton but is great if you like big crowds and crappy house band music. Just don't mention my name )

What route are you taking down? I recommend avoiding 231 and 431 as best you can because you'll get caught up in all the rest of the travelers heading that way (and out on Sunday) and makes for a crappy ride.

I used to go to Destin often when I was in High school, but it has been more than 6-7 years ago. Back then Destin was the old folks quiet place and Ft Walton was the party central just across the bay.

Have fun.

McGuires Irish Pub.

Also, take the hr hr 1/2 trip to NAS Pensacola and tour the Air Museum. That right there is a 1/2 in and of itself at the museum. Also, the ride down the Emrald Coast HGHWY is Sweet. That is, if they have the coastal highway fixed.

Then you can go to the McGuires in P'cola as well.

Man I miss P'cola. Only duty station I ever wanted to go back too, well stateside duty station. Rota Spain..... aaaahhhhhhhhh....... But I digress.

Anywho, good party town. You will have fun.

Great place to eat, drink and be drunk.

GT, I'm pretty sure the seafood joint we ate at was Old Bay Steamer (just off the corner of Miracle Strip and Santa Rosa Blvd). MrsSeamus think's it's the name too. Awesome seafood and the best oysters I've ever had.

I sent a message to a flight school buddy of mine to see if he remembers the name of the hole in the wall in Destin we frequented.

The only time that I visited Destin we actually stayed in Panama City. When we were in Destin we didn't really do anything but play on the beach. In PC we ate at some place right on the beach that was good, open air dining, I can't remember what it was called but it kind of seemed "can't miss." It was the biggest, most obviously touristy place right on the main strip.

We also ate here and really, really liked it http://www.billysoysterbar.com/menu.html

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm an idiot and didn't post up till right before we left... We got back late last night!

Great ride, absolutely no twisties tho (as expected)... Very scenic trip down there, we went through Eufala and Dothan. We got pelted by rain on the way down there for a little while (frog toggs are a wonderful thing) and then spent the remainder of the trip trying to outrun the rain the rest of the way.

Weather down there was pretty good, sunny most of the time with some clouds and a daily downpour. We didn't get to take as many photos as we have liked too, but we'll post some of the ones we have as soon as possible

Brooke did a great job for her first long trip, learning hand signals pretty well and definitely preferring riding down to sitting in a cage the entire time!

We stayed in a "neighborhood" right at the edge of Destin and Mirimar Beach (Emerald Coast or Coves or something like that)

McGuires is actually one of the places that stuck out in my head at first, that place really is pretty good!

It was definitely one of those places I would have regretted not bringing the bike! I only wish we had more time down there, there were tons of restaurants I wanted to try!
