Saying hello...been off for a bit recovering
Hey everyone. I've been off for a bit recovering from an emergency surgery. Popped in now and again, but today is the first day I've been clear of any pain killers and can focus on anything at all. I had 3 vertibra fused in my upper spine and bone fragments and spurs removed and shaved after I feel from a roof during our first freezing spell. I was working on a heating unit on the top of a pole barn and slipped. The surgery I didn't want to have was forced after that one. I also had to have some repair work done on my knee, which was injured in the fall also. Doing better now, but still hurts to even think, not alone move at all. I'll be frequenting more often again, now that I can actually type and without thinking so damn hard. Still hoping to try racing by mid season also, depending on how recovery goes. More to come as I find out more.
Bikerboy...aka Steve

Re: Saying hello...been off for a bit recovering
The hopes are that I have learned from this and will check my surroundings. It was a mistake I shouldn't have made, I was severely shocked and slipped on an icy patch, but I should've been standing in a different area.
As far as the racing deal goes, it's my last hoorah, and I don't want to put it off any longer than I have to. The wife is already saying I should just sell and be better off for it, but I'm not the listening type of guy when it comes to that. Doctors say it won't be this year though, but I always stay hopeful and positive. Never thought at 32 years of age I'd fall off my first roof. What a moron I feel like. All will be good though, and thank you for your kind words. I'm starting therapy on Feb 22nd, and work from there.

Just sell the sportbike and get a mini-motard to race.

Starting to feel like that HD. I'm not one to think before I do something as of late, but that will be changing. It's been a bad year, but can only get better! I've got a buyer for my race bike and my VFR, but I don't know if I'm ready to sell out quite yet. I'm able to move around now, better than I could even 2 days ago. Doctors here in Rochester are amazing. Even been calling to see how things are going. I'm now the king of accident prone people, I think. I hope for no more after this!

Dayumm. I thought you were going to try the rehab path but I guess someone else made that decision for you.
I hope PT goes well, it's helped me tremendously so far.

Re: Saying hello...been off for a bit recovering
Weather here is helping me stay in the "rest" mode for sure. Wife just called and informed me that it's -2 outside as of right now, with a windchill of -18! I live in a place where there is actually negative temperature! But here in MN we get the best of both worlds, because it will hit over 90 for weeks on end during the summer, when I'll be recovered again!!!
I can't even go see my bike, and it's done. I want the pics up here of Crash's paint scheme. I've been called already and told it's unbelievable! I saw bwhip's photos and if mine turned out half as good I'm going to be thrilled! Thank you all, you are wonderful people! I'm glad to be able to get back on and start posting again. I'm laid up and have nothing better to do right now, so I could become a post whore really fast!!!!

Re: Saying hello...been off for a bit recovering
Thanks abtech! They said with doing the proper PT I should be able to function as good if not better than before. Time will tell, but I'm looking at everything in a whole new light! I'm thinking the big guy upstairs decided that I wasn't making the right decisions, so he intervened. That's the only way I can see it right now. My dad has said he hopes my kids don't get my "uncoordination" gene. I'm hoping that too!

Bad luck.
Have a quick and painless recovery, and stay off of "barns".

Wow, bad luck. Not fun having that surgery forced on you. I hope it all works out for the best for you and you recover 100%!

Wow, you have had some tough stuff happen! Glad it wasn't any worse!
You WILL overcome this stuff! Look forward to seeing you on a track, if I ever get my sorry butt there!
