One of my friends has one of those dogs. His is still a pup so he isn't quite as big, but he's still big. And strong.
He came home from work one day and the dog was walking around their yard with the 800lb chain that he was tied to and the 4' stake on the other end of the chain that was pounded all the way into the ground when he left for work that morning. The pup was only about 10 months old and maybe 110lbs at that point.

I read gas meters for 3 years and never came across one of those. I did find a German - german shepherd that was about a foot taller than an average GS.
Its usually a case of the bigger dogs are nice or ok on average. Its the lil shat dogs you have to watch out for.
