any dirt riders?
I'm thinking of getting back in to dirt riding after 10+ years of street only. I'm leaning towards a modern 4 stroke 250 like a YZ250F or similar.
Anyone out there care to share their experiences, or of course, pics? |

What kind of riding will you be doing, motocross or trails?

Re: any dirt riders?
No motocross or any kind of big jumps or racing. I'll mainly be riding on trails in the woods or on logging roads, etc...just recreational stuff.
Right now I'm really looking at the YZ250F or the WR250F. I don't need lights, but e-start would be a nice luxury. I know an MX bike would be overkill opposed to an enduro-type bike, but the MX bikes are lighter and don't need to be "uncorked", and don't they tend to have better suspension components? By the way, I'm not really looking to buy new, though there are some tempting end of year deals. |

Re: any dirt riders?
The motocrossers are wound up too tight for the woods/trails. I know, because I have one and use it more in the woods than on the moto-x track.
The WR and CRF-X lines are excellent, as well as those from KTM and Husky. Lots of choices, even in the used market. |

XR650R can be lots of fun. A bit on the heavy side compared to some 250 or 400cc but better over all for long rides.
XR650L more of a compromise if you want to use it as a commuter in addition to riding trails. I'm parting out my DR650SE. I have not had a good experience with this bike. |

Re: any dirt riders?
My next bike will definitely be used because I'm not sure how often I'll be able to ride. I was leaning toward the WR or CRF 450, but after talking to some local riders I think the 250 will suit me fine.
What MX bike are you riding, "Pete"? Didn't you used to have an XR? Last edited by SerialThriller; 12-19-2006 at 11:45 AM. |

Re: any dirt riders?
I have an '06 CRF450R, used to have an XR400. I've finally come to the realization that I'm already too banged up to continue with the MX stuff, so I'm thinking about trading the 450R for a 450X.

I now have an 05 CRF450x and I love it, except...I never ride it. Rode a friends 250x for awhile before I got this and it moved me quite eptly...but my somewhat undiminutive frame required a little more then 250cc's, but strangely I was faster on that bike then I am the 450 on the super tight stuff because its so damn small I like the Honda offerings over the Yam's still, but that may change in 08. |
