Indy 2009: Parking Info
MCADX Group Ticket Holders,
Based upon what we learned in 2008, I wanted to pass along some general parking information.
For reference, the track map is located here:
http://www.redbullindianapolisgp.com/images/trackmap/2008-trackmap.pdf
*The trackmap will change slightly in 2009. When this link goes dead, you will have to navigate to the 2009 version.
Daily Backstretch Bike Parking (Armbands)
It was not announced by the Speedway, but due to inclement weather, your "Daily Backstretch Bike Parking" armband was honored if you drove a car into the Coke Lot section P1C. They are currently discussing this arrangement for the 2009 event, and I will pass along any information that I hear.
* Due to the long walk to J-Stand from the "Backstretch" parking, I am also investigating bike lots that are a bit closer. Tentatively, P1A & P8 will be $20 for a 3-day Reserved pass....stay tuned.
3-Day Reserved - Coke Lot P1B
This is a good option for ticketholders in the NW Vista, J-Stand etc. It is easy to get in and out of, and only a short walk to our seats. Cost is $10 Practice, $10 QP, $20 Race Day...or $40 for 3-Day Advanced. You can purchase the advance pass directly from the Speedway website.
Daily Free Parking - P11 (Infield) & P7 (North 40)
Based upon previous experience, I did not recommend this as a good option in 2008. On a normal event, these fill up very early, and are hard to get out of at day's end.
However, due to the smaller crowd size, these lots turned out to be a good option. "Evl-twn" (and others?) reported that they were able to drive directly in and out, and there was no cost. I would expect this to be a good option in 2009 as well. *My apologies for not recommending this last year, but I was going with what I knew at the time...
Gear Check Info - Added 8/20/09
For those riding, there will be 5 Gear Check stations this year.
http://www.redbullindianapolisgp.com...P_Race_Weekend_
Vendor Marketplace
Main Gate West Parking Lot
Lot 3 Pavement Parking Lot
Lot 8 Parking Lot
Backstretch Parking Concession Stand
*Keep in mind that gear check stations, particularly the Vendor Marketplace one, can be used by all fans whether riding or not. This may come in handy if you buy something large and do not want to carry it around the track all day.
More details as they become available....
See you in Indy...

How about some details for those of us who actually rode?

evl_twn,
I remember you had good luck using the free infield parking lot (P11) in 2008.
Can you post your thoughts/tips here for any members that might be considering this option?
Thanks...

Just received my pass to the Coke Lot in the mail yesterday. Great place to park if you're caging it...nice and close to our seats.

Anyone riding this year or is everyone caging it?

I dont drink and ride, so I will be caging it again this year.
Amateurs practices until they get it right. A professional practices until they can't get it wrong.

Do too.

Depending on our situation, either one or both of us will be riding again this year.

I'd like to ride, but solo slabbing there wouldn't be too fun...

CAN CRUSHER
We're still not sure whether we're riding or caging yet, but the infield parking was definitely the way to go if you're in a cage. We rolled in the north side (Gate 10 I think?) and headed straight for the infield. I stopped where some attendants were letting people in, and got some cash ready. They just wanted to see the tickets, it's included with the ticket purchase.

We trucked the VFR up then rode from the hotel each day.

I've thought about trailering there, but it's a lot of hassle (and gas) for minimal riding...

And riding in traffic no less. I had considered it, but keep coming up with the value lacking just to say I rode in.
Now, if I knew I could be there for the on-track ride, it might sway the equation.

Age of bike + rider = 78 !!
If the weather is spectacular I will probably ride.

Currently, the extended forecast predicts highs on Saturday at 81* with a low of 59*. The standard 20% chance of scattered thunderstorms.
The midwest weather caveat applies, however.
Ride during the weekend but trailering down, correct? If so, let me know if you need a spot to park the bike or van. The door is always open.

Thanks!
If I ride, I'll ride from here, though.

On the bad news/good news front, ticket sales are reported to be VERY sluggish this year, I don't think parking, or traffic patterns will be a problem at all...
Overseas ticket sales which were fairly robust last year, are almost non-existent this year...
