Varese, 2nd November 2009 – MV Agusta launches the new F4 and revolutionizes the legend of Italian supersport motorcycles, redefining the meaning of beauty and performance.
“The launch of the new F4 builds upon the success that started with the new Brutale and will lead MV Agusta to write new pages full of tradition and victories” Enrico D’Onofrio, Managing Director of MV Agusta commented. “The F4 was born from a completely new project with the single-minded goal of improving upon perfection and increasing the synthesis between the art of design and supersport performance. We will continue to invest in the design and development of new models in the future in order to increase the product range of our extraordinary motorcycles.”
The new F4 is a project that follows in the footsteps of MV tradition and will keep alive the dream of having the most unique supersport motorcycle in the world: a motorcycle that is true in its origins, built to the highest levels of engineering excellence and offering incredible performance. Pure perfection.
The engine has been revolutionized: the ultra compact in-line 4-cylinder 998cc engine is capable of reaching 186 hp at 12900 rpm. The highest level of engineering technology have been coupled with the most advanced electronic controls including: twin fuel injectors per cylinder, variable length intake system, slipper clutch and the TC MK II traction control system which has 8 levels of adjustment. These advancements along with the uniqueness of the radial valve system attribute to the fact that this engine is the most sophisticated and evolved on the market.
The chassis has also been engineered to unheard of levels of compactness, the new single sided rear swingarm has been lengthened while at the same time its weight has been reduced along with the fully adjustable suspension which are all factors that contribute to making the new F4 unique.
The bike that originally revolutionized the world of supersport motorcycles has become even more beautiful, sleeker and modern while maintaining the unmistakable design “Made in MV”. The new xenon headlight and the new super light fairing are factors that contribute to the incredibly narrow cross-sectional area and the new pipe organ exhaust system with a restyled 4-in-1 silencer are all distinctive elements identifying F4 as the most exclusive motorcycle in the world.
hmm... maybe they look better when you can see the rest of the bike, but the old pipes look better than those square ones. That whole tail looks funky.

I've seen lots of bikes that I thought looked like crap in photos, but I changed my mind when I saw them in person. Might look better in real life, but that photo doesn't look good to me. I loved the old add that showed the tail of the F4 and the pipe ends looked like they were glowing hot, was an awesome shot. Lookin for it, only found this one...
the Brutale is awesome. I love nakeds.
edit; found it. didn't realize it was a holiday add, didn't remember those hanging things like christmas-tree ornaments.
It will be interesting to see how they update the design of one of the most beautifully proportioned bikes I've ever seen.
You haven't heard of Pierre Terblanche hanging around CRC, have you?
Based on the picture there, I really like what I see.
The only functional improvement I can imagine would be a lower seat height and a shorter reach to the bars....
Weight. They're an incredibly rigid and stable bike, but it comes at the cost of weight.
I think half the lottery tickets I bought when I owned mine were spent in a fantasyland of buying all the factory Mg upgrades, CF bodywork, the licensed Ti organ pipe exhaust, etc etc

I'm not even remotely fond of the round pipes. I'll have to see more of the square pipes to make a judgement on them.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG
Wow, I thought the round pipes were absolutely fabulous, and an absolute trademark of the bike. The new ones could be okay, but I like the organ pipes.

Don't you say that about all new bike iterations? Sorry, that was too easy.
I am not sure about the big holes in the fairing. Like it from the front and rear.

I like it better than the previous generation (also don't like the wheels) but it's still no 1198/848. I actually like the looks of the RSV4 better also. I'd put this one in third place for the '10 bikes.

That's why they sell apples and oranges.
I don't think it's possible to decide until I see them in 3-d. MV/CRC has designed timeless, instant classic motorcycles that ended up in the Museum of Modern Art, and were the centerpiece of the Guggenheim show. They're incredibly well-proportioned and beautiful from every angle.
MV's have a "presence" in real life no other bike I've seen in person does for me.
I'll have to see the new one in person but the old one just got more and more interesting as you looked at it. It was a subtly complicated design, all angles and areas of the F4 are "shaped", and that complexity combined with incredible proportioning is what made the design...the engine's stomp, and especially sound, made the ride memorable.
EDIT: Damn...

The seating position was very similar to my 929 with race tail, I really liked it.

that's cause you're one of them tall bastards. I sat on one at a track day and I'm not sure if the seat height was changed from the 750 to the 1000 or if the one I sat on had increased ride height but I couldn't even get my toes down on both sides. It was one foot or nothing. My 929 raised and with a 190/55 tire I can still do toes on both sides if I want. so screw you tall bastards

If you can get both big toes on the ground -at the same time- on a 929, you are a tall bastard.
Dave, you are the only one that makes me feel tall. but we gotta stick together here cause I'm still in the minority. but once the bike is moving it really don't matter.
