New MV: F4 1000 312R

Or just, 312R.

Basically they took the R model which just came out, added the adjustable intake horns of the Tamburini, added Ti valves, bigger throttle bodies, obviously redid the mapping, and lost 7 kg.

The rumor is this is a homologation special: they want to use this stuff in WSBK and in AMA this year.

For me it is a mild shocker, MV didn't change the paint, it's the same as the R, notably improved performance, and it's only going to be a few K more. If I was in the market for an MV, this would be it.

At the Netherlands show:

And same pics from the MV Netherlands site:

You going to dyno tune it? Is the new map a factory map?

cheers

Re: New MV: F4 1000 312R

I'm not buying one.

It comes with a redone factory map, and I think a different exhaust. NA spec is still kinda up in the air AFAIK.

I'm sure it will be the most powerful liter bike on the market though.

oops, I though you did the upgrades to make it the same. I was trying to figure out how you lost 7 lbs

Naw, maybe next time I'm in Japan I'll buy the exhaust, but I don't have many plans for mine after that (and tuning for it) other than maybe paint.

Looks about the same as the last 68 versions they've made.

Yep.

This is the same guy that refined the 916 platform for all those years...Tamburini's theory on motorcycles.

The design is getting old, sure.

BUT, it beat all new literbikes on the race track last year....so it's not the same as the last 68 revisions.

The 312R is really kick ass, the first MV I could afford I'd consider selling the SPR for. (though I am not)

Sounds like you are saying that more for your own benefit, not ours.

Re: New MV: F4 1000 312R

Maybe a little.

When the R came out I was in lust, this is basically the "super" R, and it's not hideously expensive like the Tambo or Veltro.

I want a 'Priller and a trackbike though...I'm not sure in which order.

Yep it is hard to filter through the wants

Right now I am set to sell the 1000 and get a used CRF250 and the SXV 550.

So this is even faster than Peter Fonda's 'Busa-killing 189 mph MV?

Heh.

In his defense, a bone stock 1000 F4 did just do 185 and set a record out on the salt this year...so though I'm sure he's talking about his indicated speed, it is almost possible.

Re: New MV: F4 1000 312R

I've read somewhere that it's called 312 cause that's the weight dry... but I have not been able to find data to support it.

Oh, yeah, you're right...

thought it was kinda light but being an Italian expensive-exclusive bike I thought it was possible to weigh in at an impossible weight.

The 1992 RVF-750 TTF1 Honda weighed 308 with fuel and put ~ 170 HP to the asphalt. It can be done when cost is no object.

How's that?

Nonetheless, very impressive on the RVF-750 TTF1 part.

It was the NR of that year that had the oval pistons , not the RVF? or do I have that backwards?

The NR750 was the oval piston "production" bike. The RVF750 TTF1 was the all-out racebike for the Suzuka 8 hours (that had round pistons).

Re: New MV: F4 1000 312R

R312 took Masterbike 2007 honors over the big Japanese manufacturers by being consistently fastest with most test riders. Pretty impressive from a small italian factory.

And oh yes, my Pearl White/Black R312 1+1 should arrive within two weeks With a little luck I get it next week as it is currently being shipped from Italy. Will be fun to see how it stacks against my fully loaded 2004 CBR 1000 RR.

LOL, I'll be posting a pile of pictures just for you. The local mag made a review on the R312 and the only minus they could list was something like "everyone will start hating you"
