Basically they took the R model which just came out, added the adjustable intake horns of the Tamburini, added Ti valves, bigger throttle bodies, obviously redid the mapping, and lost 7 kg.
The rumor is this is a homologation special: they want to use this stuff in WSBK and in AMA this year.
For me it is a mild shocker, MV didn't change the paint, it's the same as the R, notably improved performance, and it's only going to be a few K more. If I was in the market for an MV, this would be it.

It comes with a redone factory map, and I think a different exhaust. NA spec is still kinda up in the air AFAIK.
I'm sure it will be the most powerful liter bike on the market though.

Naw, maybe next time I'm in Japan I'll buy the exhaust, but I don't have many plans for mine after that (and tuning for it) other than maybe paint.

This is the same guy that refined the 916 platform for all those years...Tamburini's theory on motorcycles.
The design is getting old, sure.
BUT, it beat all new literbikes on the race track last year....so it's not the same as the last 68 revisions.
The 312R is really kick ass, the first MV I could afford I'd consider selling the SPR for. (though I am not)

When the R came out I was in lust, this is basically the "super" R, and it's not hideously expensive like the Tambo or Veltro.
I want a 'Priller and a trackbike though...I'm not sure in which order.

So this is even faster than Peter Fonda's 'Busa-killing 189 mph MV?
Heh.
In his defense, a bone stock 1000 F4 did just do 185 and set a record out on the salt this year...so though I'm sure he's talking about his indicated speed, it is almost possible.

thought it was kinda light but being an Italian expensive-exclusive bike I thought it was possible to weigh in at an impossible to attain weight for riders with average income or less.
How's that?
Nonetheless, very impressive on the RVF-750 TTF1 part.

R312 took Masterbike 2007 honors over the big Japanese manufacturers by being consistently fastest with most test riders. Pretty impressive from a small italian factory.
And oh yes, my Pearl White/Black R312 1+1 should arrive within two weeks With a little luck I get it next week as it is currently being shipped from Italy. Will be fun to see how it stacks against my fully loaded 2004 CBR 1000 RR.

I'm starting to hate a great percentage of the people on this forum.
LOL, I'll be posting a pile of pictures just for you. The local mag made a review on the R312 and the only minus they could list was something like "everyone will start hating you"
The 312R is truly an awesome machine. I've only clocked like 500 km to it in 3 weeks due to extremely poor weather here (only beautiful weather was wasted by me being on a business trip), but they have all been "quality kilometres" Also, due to some old track-related injuries my right wrist is not quite 100% so no touring for me.
Quick plusses/minuses
+ no pictures do this bike any justice, this has gotta be the most beautiful motorcycle ever
+ Brembo radial stoppers are awesome. Very linear power, I'd say these are better than the Nissin's in my 1000RR. Require more power but are more easy to control
+ "electronic slipper clutch" truly works
+ suspension is to my liking. A bit on the stiffer side, but having ridden WP shod track bike for last few years I like the suspension very much
+ the gearbox ratios are awesome. For example 2nd gear is not overtly long and I would quess there are a lot of corners in local tracks where I would be able to select more optimal gear than with my 1000RR
+/- this bike is drawing sick amount of attention. Everywhere I stop other motorcyclists stop check out the bike. The importer said it is the only 312R in Finland. Pearl white/black (at least 1+1 model) is sold out throughout Europe (mine was supposedly last available in the factory) so at least not exactly similar bike should not appear.
- the most useless mirrors I've ever seen in a motorcycle. Even Bacchus would be too tall to see anything through them I tried to position myself to see through them but almost fell off the bike.
- FI is less than perfect in lower revs
- came OEM-equipped with Dunflop 208 tires, me not like
This bike will go to track as soon as weather forecasts and my calendar get an agreement that it is a good idea to go.
The MV mirrors definitely suck, but they sure are pretty.
