Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
I don't know how feesable it is or what would be involved or when it would be, but Maybe we could set something up for the new calabogie track in Ontario?
Just a feeler, I have not seen many of my ontario counterparts on here...yet.
Surely some of the northern state members would make the trip.

Age of bike + rider = 78 !!
Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
I'd be interested to read the details - It's a bit of a haul, but doable.

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
I'm definitely up for it. Don't think we would have enough members showing up to have the track only for us, but I can make some calls and see if we can have a price for like maybe 10 spot?

Looking to possibly do one with a local track club... (even though I dont like the dates already)
Its just as far as VIR for me so I'd be interested if it wasnt too expensive.

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
I can't see it being as expensive as VIR. Mind you I cannot see calabogie being as good a VIR either. I have yet to make it to calabogie but, VIR is pretty "decent"
I am sure that we can figure something out, any one else in for this?
See you at GRATTAN

There is no such thing as plenty of vacation time. I could use 10 weeks a year easily

I am interested, but a lot depends on timing of the year.

Those that have any interest, please post the month you'd be up for it. I'll look into dates after we at least have an idea of the month.
For me May would be my first pick.

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
Any month is fine for me as long as I have a minimum 3-4 months notice. However, I've already used all my vacation time for 2007...

Well for the amount of driving I'm doing... its gotta be at least a two day deal.
Aug, Sept or May

and more...and more...
Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
I am interested whether calabogie or mosport (or whichever track is possible) don't care which track or what month or any details I just wanna get to a trackday or three. Chances are I can make it and might drag a couple locals with me as well.

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
mosport for sure - calabogie is not a track on my list to ride - friend of mine went up for an invite-only trackday end of last year held by the owners to introduce it to the ontario motorcycle community and his feedback to them was "great track, fine for cars, but hell for bikes: walls everywhere, no run off areas, an off here would have serious health consequences"
when you see onboard footage of the track it is obvious that it has been designed specifically with cars in mind. Spend the day ridding at 5/10th and sure, everything will be fine, but thats not much fun...
mosport on the other hand is FAST and flowing: frightening for beginners, a real challenge for the intermediate rider and a rush for experienced riders.
another alternative would be Cayuga (Toronto motorsports park) outside hamilton (just south of toronto) - trackdays are cheap ($100 CAD) track is quick and flowy with lots of run off.
SHannonville is nice too - probably the track ill ride most this year just because it has so many track days.
-
Do too.

I never rode the track, but from what I see in this vid, http://www.teampromotion.com/media/calabogie.wmv yes there's plenty of walls but they seems to be lots of room where you are most likely to crash.
I'm going to ride it soon and I'll post a full report

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
have fun and ride safe
ive seen this vid before (and a few others) and my take on it is there are spots where i would be getting on the gas are some of the spots where the walls actually curve towards the track
the other dynamic with this track is that there are several spots were a quick rider will be accelerating, transitioning weigth from one side to the other while cresting a small hill (i thikn there are three such spots) - these are very tricky spots because the bike will be natually unstable and prone to highside...
a rider died at mosport last year after hitting one of the walls in an area that has a lot more run off than most of the corners on this track
if it sounds like i am crapping all over this beautiful track i am not - its just my opinion, which is probably formed from experience on tracks that have a lot more open space around them.
i havent heard from anyone yet that has done an open to the public lapping day at 'bogie (the only two guys i know that have ridden it where on private days, with low speeds and no passing allowed) so i am looking forward to hearing how you liked it

My first track day there should be in May. Still looking forward to it

May is actually pretty damn nice up there. April is border line, but may is one of my favorite month to be in Eastern Canada.

Re: Intrest in an Ontario motorcycleaddicts day?
since a lot of y'all probably havn't seen many canadian tracks here are a few more to think about, eh:
mosport - also known as the BIG TRACK
YouTube - AFM Motorcycle racing
shannonville - this is the Pro Track configuration, meaning that it skips most of the infield sections - i prefere the Long Track configuration - keeps the exterior fast sections and combines some of the infield technical sections, but this video gives you a sense for the track
YouTube - Z1000 on Shannonville Pro Track
and here is Cayuga (toronto motorsports park, or TMP) - very similar to shannonville. The onboard footage starts at about 1:41 of the video, and ignore this riders lines, they are all wrong...but you'll get a feeling for the track.
YouTube - Clips from cayuga
enjoy...and then get up here and ride them!
