    Deal's Gap 2007

I'm not sure if this should go under MAo days or not, feel free to move. I'm just curious if anyone else has any interest in meeting up at the Gap during the first week in May? I've been there the same timeframe every year since 1999. The dates for this year's trip are Apr 28th - May 6th. This has been a regular event for the #motorcycles channel on efnet IRC.

I don't think my bike will be street legal next year but if I'm going to be around there at that time I can make it happen.

I "have" to be at school that week. In Atlanta. With Professor Kevin Schwantz.

I know a couple of guys in Indiana that want to combine a spring trip to the gap with a trackday at Barber, though.

Yeah, I'm already planning to be there, since I've told him several years that I would go, and haven't made it yet.

Sounds like a plan to me. I should have a brand new bike in a few weeks to try out on the Gap. A night run would be perfect.

If you've never done it - try it. It's an experience you will never forget.

    Re: Deal's Gap 2007

We've been roughing it in this tiny little cabin up in Townsend for the last several years. I originally checked out this place just because it had a decent sized garage, but the view ain't bad either.

There's a LOT of places to stay in the area. Robbinsville, Maggie Valley, Waynesville NC; Townsend, Pigeon Forge, or Gatlinburg TN. Lots of lodging info on Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC

Do you have a phobia of going places by yourself?

I rode down there from Cleveland back in 05. One of the best vacations I've ever taken

You could stay at the Two Wheel Inn which is just down the road from the Gap. Great little motel with a garage for your bike.

I sure do. The gap is a 8 hour ride for me, so that would most likely be my best bet.

    Re: Deal's Gap 2007

This does not impact my plans in the least bit, but here's another case of pre-season scare tactics. Who knows if enforcement will be different this year? I can remember several years ago they had the big "drag racing" videotaping sting, and there have been other heavy enforcement weekends since then. Ride smart, be legal (reg/license/insurance), and you should be ok.

This was posted by Darryl Cannon A.K.A. Killboy on the Deals Gap Yahoo discussion board. Just wanted to pass it along.

"Hey, just to give you a heads up for next season----we have a new captain in the knoxville district which covers blount county------ he has already told us that we will put a stop to the "race track driving" up on the dragon this year------so far what they have said is that the speed limit is 30mph and "ANYONE" caught going 50mph and up will be charged with reckless driving and will be jailed and their bike/car will be impounded--- --I am telling you this because i am trying to put the word out to everyone i know----or to people who know people that go up there-----I don't want to have to take people to jail for this---however I have bills to pay and I kind of like having a job---so never the less I have to do what i am told to do-----so the way i see it is that if killboy.com knows and you know and dealsgap.com knows and whoever else can find out can pass this along---it will benefit everybody--- -----feel free to copy and past this and let everyone know-------if you get caught up there it is only your fault because i am trying to pass the word along for everybody's sake-----we are not just going to come up from the bottom like in years past---they are gonna have us go through cherohala skwy in north carolina and come from the top down to the bottom----so no more free rides on your way back to the state line----they are gonna bring unmarked cars with radio's and have unmarked bikes up there----this will be a joint effort with blount county and the THP-----The entire THP motor unit will be brought in 2 people at a time(for a week long assignment) to be paired up with the local car----they plan on busting tail at least 3-4 times right off the bat---then they will sit back and see what takes place-----these orders came from Nashville Headquarters- --we have a complete brand new higher ranking structure from the very tip top spot down----they have said we will work until the problem is solved----just wanted to give you and your friends a heads up.......... I watched Superbikes! last night (which I never watch) on SPEED because they had an episode featuring Deal's Gap. Now that they let the ICON-wearing crowd know about it, this is just as well.

Hey, I wear ICON and like their helmets, jackets, and gloves. The rest of the selection leaves a little to be desired, but still...

i was wondering how long that would take before they started to bust ass over there. just out of curiosity, what is the percentage of deadly wrecks on that road? and isnt that a big money maker for the area, so why would they do that?
