Re: Prayers Requested (Rider Down) (updated 9:00pm)

CBRVFR headed back up to the hospital this afternoon.

Latest update: RAH now has some swelling in his brain caused by some fat globules the docs are working to relieve. They are going to place him in an induced coma for a while to see if it helps the situation. His immediate family is either on site or working their way there now.

Heal fast Richard.

For anyone that has not had the honor, Richard is the kind of guy that comes up to everyone and not only says hi but honestly cares. One of the most friendly and kind folks you will ever meet. We never want ANY rider to have a problem but this injury is a HUGE hit as he is that good a guy.

Re: Prayers Requested (Rider Down) (updated 27JUN 6:54pm)

Here's a simplified update.

Initially there was no indication on the CT scans of brain trauma, but since Rich didn't wake yesterday when they tried to get him to respond, they investigated further and found some swelling.

Rich's cranial pressure has to be reduced and stabilized to an index of about 16. They put a gauge in his skull this AM and found it was at 24. To correct this, they essentially put him in the deepest coma possible with drugs and hypothermic (cold) blankets. He is in a dark room with no talking or touching allowed so his brain can relax and heal.

After a couple hours of this he was down to 20. The nurse was encouraged that 'it wasn't getting worse.'

They think if they can get him to stabilize at 16 or below, they'll have more success bringing him out.

Please continue to pray for that swelling to reduce NOW. This is a far more serious situation than we first thought.

Re: Prayers Requested (Rider Down) (updated 27JUN 6:54pm)

This has been especially sobering for me, as Rich has been a "standard feature" at nearly every track day I have attended or worked at during the past 4 or 5 years at Grattan.

If someone had told me that there would be a crash in the first session of the first day, Rich wouldn't have made the long list. He is one of the smoothest, easy going riders I have ever had the privilige of riding with and next to me and a few other Grattanites has more time on this track than anyone.

I have been totally blown away by the generosity of the members of this forum over the past three days, but Rich's crash is definitely the only thing that I am thinking about now. I have never met his family, but offer them my deepest encouragement and hope that his condition will quickly improve and they can work through this terrible situation.

Racing and track riding is a love hate relationship with me, as I have caused my family months of fear and anxiety over the years due to my love of the sport and it's inherent penalties. My prayers and thoughts are with Rich and his family and hope his recovery and return to the track is swift and certain.

Re: Prayers Requested (Rider Down) (updated 27JUN 6:54pm)

With a tear in my eye I write this now. The tear is mainly from the outpouring of love and compassion from you all.

Prayers are still needed for him and his family.

And as others have said, Rich is a good rider, very conservative and smooth, he is one of those guys who you would trust you own kid to ride with at speed.
Prayers coming from me and mine.

Linda: BTW the car and bike is in good hands. Do not worry about it, take care of Rich for us and let us know if ya need anything.

Re: Prayers Requested (Rider Down) (updated 27JUN 6:54pm)

RAH I’m pulling for you in a major way buddy! I can’t relay the emotion that I’m going through reading each message of support from everyone to RAH and how much this hits home for me. Some of you may or may not know I had a similar situation on the street. When it happened to me the word “fatty embolism” comes to mind. I was telling my mother about what happened and this really choked her up and she expressed her empathy to what your family is going through. She has also added her prayers to the prayers from every member from this forum. I pray another prayer for you today for your fast and speedy recovery!!

I'm not sure if I met Rich on monday morning or not but from what I hear I'm very sorry if I didn't as he seems like a great guy.

I have to say on the way home today I started thinking about him and his family and started crying a little.

Rich, my thoughts are with you and your family right now. heal up fast.
