Having firsthand experience (unfortunately) with a pretty serious crash, I can tell you guys that all of your continued support will mean a lot to RAH. When he's up to it, someone needs to print off this thread and take it to him. Keep the well wishes and prayers flowing guys and gals. This community takes care of its own like few others.

Wow... what a horrible way to start Grattan! But it sounds like Rich is in good hands. You guys are awesome to look out for him like that.

He will be in our thoughts over the next few days, but it already sounds like he is quite a fighter and with the guys looking out for him he will pull through.

I came over the hump right after he'd gone down and he was laying there on his back trying to get up... He had to have been in an incredible amount of pain. It was against all my instincts not to pull over and try to help him.

Glad it wasn't worse and wishing Richard a fast recovery.

Richard's wife, Linda, here. Dave has been uncharacteristically saintly and I am grateful for him and his wife Nancy's support and love. We all appreciate your kind words and prayers as we wait for a more positive outcome. The current condition is that he has not been conscious since the emergency room but everything possible is being monitored. Thank you again and we are all comforted knowing you care about Richard and our family as we go through a tough time. Linda Herald <the one from whom the kids got their good looks - Dave>

Yea, this sucks. I saw RAH in the grass moving and was relieved. I figured it was probably some type of hurt leg and in the grand scheme of things, NBD. Shows how much I know.

I didn't get a chance to meet Rich officially, but I saw him in the paddock. Tall, smilling, dude. You could tell he was really glad to be there. Sucks to have it turn out this way for him.

Regardless, I'm confident that he's going to be just fine. Prayers, thoughts, good Karma.

He landed hard on that Arai helmet, and it did a fine job of saving his life. ( The Knox back protector and the BB leathers helped greatly, too) With all the complications he's got now, any neuro damage could have been devastating.

Please continue to pray/send good thoughts. If this trauma would have occurred out on the road instead of 1000 feet from an ambulance, or if the hospital didn't have a heart/lung ICU of the caliber of this one, we would have been in the deepest shit.

Wow... just saw this. Good luck man and hang in there. Of course, most likely he won't remember any of what is happening now, which is a good thing. Glad rescue was there quickly, and sorry I couldn't be there to help! There is no T14 (unless they make a bunch more Terminator movies) so must be T12... compression fractures are generally stable and he'll at most hopefully just have to wear a brace. The femur will take awhile to heal. The pneumo and then being placed on ppv, likely indicates some underlying contusion that can take a few days or at worst a few weeks to settle down. As far as CHI (closed head injury) it usually doesn't show up on a CT. It is very good they don't see any blood on the ct (parynchymal, SDH or EDH) but you can still be contused and take awhile to recover neurologically. Was he knocked unconcious? Did he wake right up and act ok?

    Keep us posted!
