Yep if you are in the 30's you will be towards the front of the group. My best last year was a 1:36.38. With most floating between that and 1:40. 1:46 being my slowest lap ignoring session 1.
Nah, they're probably upper 30/low 40 to perhaps upper 40/low-mid50. This event is limited as to the number of riders, so no matter what group you're in, there will be a ton of open track, so no worries about passing, or feeling like you're being held up, or holding anyone up, etc.
You can also switch groups if you feel you're in the wrong one.

My opinion 1:50-2:15. With a 1:50-5 being fine in intermediate. The nice thing is with the small groups it is possible (with approval) to jump to any appropriate group so there is really no need to worry much. I will start this year in "I" probably but might jump up and get passed a lot
Richard, are you a first timer to track riding? If so, don't be concerned with the times of the various groups. I can assure you'll feel comfortable in whichever group you're in...
Oh, yeah, thanks for clarifying. Yup, have to ask Abtech for approval. But, it won't be a problem based on the number of people, as there should be room, just depends on your skills.

Yes, this will be my first year riding at the track. I have about 4 track days planned prior to my trip with you guys at Grattan. Thanks for the reassurance. Rob (NortherRR) previously gave me the rundown on what you mentioned.
I'm more so concerend with learning as much as I can from you guys, who know the ropes, than with my lap times. I'll be the noob with a million and one questions. From what I've picked up while lurking around the forum, I'll be around the right people at Grattan who will be able to help me out with tips and advice.

You do not want to try and hit160 like some other noob here?

Richard,
You'll be in good hands. Don't hesitate to ask anyone to show you the ropes, the lines, and provide any other information. It is a great learning environment. Welcome aboard.

Anything you need to know, don't hesitate to ask.

That is the best way I have seen that written.
Grattan was my third track day ever. I was SO nervous when I left to go to it, and when it came time I never wanted to leave. Lap times don't count for anything(at least until the dinner on tuesday night)
Go out have fun and work on being consistent and smooth.
They all forget that we canadians have NO problems hitting 160 on the front straight.

Oh yea, no reason to not hit 160km/h on the front strait.

It was my first track day(s) ever and I too was really nervous. But "knowing" the people prior to going helped a lot.
lap times matter when a certain western Canadian comes back into the pits and goes "I just ran a 1:31" then gets booted to the whack pack.
your 160 is lame

I heard some dumb ass was running 1:17s in 2007 showing off about it and all, then he crashed in 2008 like a noob.
I can't believe some of this guys trying to show off in front of people who are clearly faster than they are. Don't they know it's going to come back and bite them sooner rather than later? Damned noobs...

What would ya say the probability of this "noob" passing your ass at 1 of 4 places be?
Nevermind the 160 thing Richard. I just get a rise off these old fogy's (no offense to "old fogy" himself) who are stuck in ancient times. The best way to feel comfortable around the track is to follow someone that knows the track until you know it. There will be many there, and you'll fit right in.
Then of course there is the after where the sport takes over your life.

So you are saying there is a chance!
Realistically it will be fairly close I believe. You were running low 30's last year correct? I believe I will be low 30's and safely into the 20's after a little more track time and some suspension help. None the less I'm up for some bench racing (all in fun of course)

Less than your chance of getting whooped by the herd
If that is a grave, then no. Everyone will be safe, and going home in 1 piece this year. If its just a hole, I'm not much of a BS'r and don't dig holes I can't get out of.

I think sheep is fairly close here. It was my first trackday. I timed myself by watching a video of myself around the track and it came in at about 1:55, I don't think it was my fastest lap but I definitely had some that were slower. There were some people going a little faster and some going a bit slower but there wasn't a huge spread. I think DoubleDan had a lap timer on at some points and he was probably the fastest out of us true noobs. Maybe he or Seamus can remember what he was running? He was usually about 2-3 seconds a lap faster than me.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

DD had a fastest lap of 1.33 i believe.

Yep he had some absurd times when towed Now if we can get him to stay off the grass on trackdays this year He is definitely a fast learner though. Of course while I saw the time (my borrowed timer) I wonder a bit since Seamus was involved and he is not above messing with me.... well none of y'all are.....
