Photo feedback

From: The Grattan Photo Guys
To: Grattan 2008 attendees

First, we want to give a big "thank you" to everyone who purchased photos again this year. We really appreciate the support, especially in light of this summer's out of control gas prices. You guys rock!

Now, we're looking for some feedback so we can provide an even better service next year. Please feel free to comment (publicly or via PM) about the photo service.

- Products: This year we basically offered only CD's. Did you miss having the availability of 5x7 and 8x10 prints at the track? Do you want even bigger prints? Any other products you'd really like to see?

- Price: We priced the CD's at $75, whether you rode one, two, or all three days. Most people got over a hundred photos. Do you feel this is a good value, or is the price too high (or too low)?

- Content of photos: Were you satisfied with the quantity, variety and quality of the photos you got in 2008? We took photos of just about every part of the track our lenses would allow us to shoot. What shots are your favorite? What do you want to see more of? Do you like the tightly cropped shots the most, and/or do you want to see more wider-angle shots with multiple riders and more of the 'scene' in the frame?

Anything else? Now's your chance to pipe up...please let us know what you think!

Thanks!
The Grattan Photo Guys

You guys did fantastic work. We tend to take that for granted because of your previous involvement, but it's Top.Fucking.Drawer.TM

My only concern is that you didn't get to ride much.

I think having the availability of ordering the prints is good enough.

Whereas I might balk at that price if I didn't know the photogs, in your case, it's not objectionable at all. I got a lot of pics, and a lot of value.
As a data point, I have paid about $50.00 for a relative handful of good photos at Barber.

If you covered your costs and feel rewarded enough to want to come back, I'm happy with it.

So THANK YOU.

I liked them all, I think I made prints of just over 100 out of over 120.

price was good considering the amount of pics.

some wider stuff with more riders would be cool once I get faster so its not just a shot of someone passing me or about to pass me.

you guys rule

As long as the availability is there, whether I have them immediately or later on isn't really of consequence. The CD is fine for me.

I've been to track days where I rode one day (4 or 5 sessions) had only 8 or 9 pics available (or ridden and only liked 1 or 2 pics) and been asked to pay $70.

You could have priced them at whatever you needed to recoup your costs for equipment and showing up and #3 will apply.

I'm not a photog but just looking at the pics compared with others I've gotten or seen and the quality is more than evident.

It's not like you can tell who you've taken pics of over the course of even a session but I like what you guys have done with the tightly cropped pics. A few more with multiple riders would be cool. And I know I'm leading the slow train into many of those turns so it shouldn't be hard to make it look like (1) I'm fast and (2) I'm leading the pack.

Okay, it's hard to make it look like I'm fast.

As to the $50 at Baa-rber I think you will find you would pay more now. I noticed that all seem to have gone up some which is not surprising as costs have gone up.

The only things I could suggest (but I am happy with the current) is:
1) the printed CD labels you did one year were cool. Makes finding things easier
2) if it would be possible to fit on the CD picks of generic stuff is cool also. For instance the group photo, pics from dinner/BBQ, and/or pit pics. Even if they were those taken by your sweet assistant on her lesser cam.
3) One photo of the other riders/attendees. Unlike most days this is not all about ME. It is unique in that getting to see the friends/other members is a huge part of the fun.

And certainly that you BOTH have fun. I think it really cool that Tom the tire guy gets track time. The year the flagging lady rode behind Abtech . After all without the support people I don't get to play either.

Oh and a maple sugar candy block included in the package would be good also

The quality and quantity of the photos is awesome, and the price is fair. Not much to add, really. Just getting CDs is fine if that's easier for you guys. Being able to get a print from you later of a certain shot is good enough, no need to have to get it right at the track. Random group shots added to the CDs would be cool, if you happened to get shots at lunch, bbq, dinner, etc. Then again, you guys need time to relax, too! Keep up the great work. I hope it covers expenses enough that you'll keep coming back. Not only do you both do wonderful work, it's great hanging out with you, too!

We actually did not do a group shot this year, for some reason. Next year I propose we do a group shot on the second day, just after lunch.

Sheep, this year's discs did have MCADX/Grattan-specific labels, although I think we may have run out of those. Do you want a reprint with the Grattan label?

Great work again fellas!!!!!!

As far as value.....pffttt. You guys rock!!! As others have said and I shared with K at the event, pics at other events are about the same we paid at Grattan but only get a few shots. I look at it this way, I got about 115 pics, divide that by the cost of the CD ($75) and the price is $.65 per image. That is cheap in my opinion concidering that both of you drove many miles to an event to mostly spend time taking photos of us, gas prices, spent vacation time and wear and tear on your vehicles just to name a few items that come to mind. I will put it this way, if you raised the price I do not think anyone would bitch. If they did, oh well.

The pics were great. I had plenty of diversity in the images I got an am well satisfied.

And like CBRVFR said, you guys did not get enough track time in.

Thanks Again!!!!!!!!!

Joking about the pics sucking , but serious about a CD. It's the least I can do to help support the event this year.

Too many pics with my knee not on the ground.

The pics were awesome, and a very good value considering quantity vs. cost.

As I think about it from my very amateur photographer perspective, I would think Grattan is actually a fairly tough place to get good camera angles. People tend to like three types of shots - panning shots showing great speed, slow corners where lean angle is at its peak with knee on the ground, and shots showing the rider in (or leading) a group. Because of the terrain at Grattan, in many cases the photographer is perched above the corner, or would have to place themselves in a risky or distracting spot. Under the circumstances, you guys do a fantastic job!

I thought the value was great for the number of pics. I had planned on buying pics since it was my first, and probably last for awhile, trackday. It was a little more than I thought I would be spending but I figured I'd be paying $50 for four or five shots. When I found out that I got the entire CD for $75 I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. The only thing that I noticed is that probably half of the pictures were while my peg feelers were still on my bike meaning that they were all of the first two sessions I rode. By the time I was going faster the picture taking must have ended?

We stopped taking shots after the first couple of sessions on day 3. Sorting and burning cd's is time consuming so we need to make time for that on the last day.

Sorry, Will.

This is going to sound awfull but I missed out on viewing the pics at the event. Not sure how I did that. None the less did either of you host these on line for us to see and to purchase?
