Well I finally called it a day. I am in Abilene, Abilene... Kansas. Should have 7ish hours into Colorado Springs tomorrow. Might swing by the base but otherwise it will be upload some lame pictures and hot tub time
I missed a picture of the tackiest trailer I have ever seen behind a motorhome, a giant cow, and double decker VW bus

Glad to hear you're moving westward. I just got home from Miller, but am looking forward to heading back there (again) in just a few days. See you soon!
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.

I can't believe you were in the neighborhood and didn't give us a shout.

Actually I thought of y'all going through KC. As far as planning I found out late Friday I was going Sunday so there was a ton of chores and loading I think I went through KC about 8PM your time so it was late and I have to be in Colorado early today to be sure I can get in tomorrow. Oh and this is from the last Rest Area in Kansas which has wireless

Actually it was dark so i did not see much. St Louis on the other hand what terrible roads and strange layout. The only good thing is the local team is a sheep

So I go to work this morning and I am not on the list and they tell me to get dipped After making some calls so I can get in tomorrow I decide to take advantage of the situation rather than get dipped. I unload the RR and head out of Colorado Springs on US24 the goal was to go to Aspen via Indepence Pass then back over the pass and down to Salida. From Salida head back to COS on 50.
US24 was fun at coming up the hill and then I headed across the highplains to Wilkerson Pass. It looks like rain is coming but I figure that I will hit the pass and look from the top. Talked to the volunteers for a second (nice couple from OK that stay at the pass all summer) On down into Hartsel and the rain looks a bit closer. Into Buena Vista and I get a bit of sprinkles but things look good up north so I go for it I hit 82 and pick up a tail on a BMW. It is so so pavement and I am moving at a moderate clip and he just tails along dropping back then catching up. This goes on all the way to Independence Pass where I pull over figuring he might follow to say hi. Nope he goes on. I get some pictures (I think my ability is going down as they are just not looking good).
So I try to call work and get no signal so I head down toward Aspen. there is a bunch of cars parked and a wreck. The guy on the BMW crashed on the straight Kind of strange as he was not riding fast or bad when behind me. So I walk up to see how he is doing. There is a Dr that stopped and CDOT folks helping him so I wait a second then talk to him. He asks what I am riding and I tell him the red Honda he followed up, he does not remember it. Seems he was kind of out of it (speculation was medication problems). I wish he had stopped as after talking I could have taken his keys and saved him some broken ribs Thankfully he had a good helmet and gear on. On the way back I stopped and talked to the State Policeman that was watching his bike until the tow truck got there. Nice fellow and he thought the BMW rider would be fine.
On the way back I also stopped in the ghost town of Independence. There is a cool story behind this place so be sure to stop and read the signs if you go by. Also talk to the ghost if one is on duty.
I head south to US24 to 291 and into Salida missing rain all the way. In Salida I turn back east on US50 and head into Big Horn Sheep Canyon. I spot some RMBs and stop to get pictures. It was cool as they were climbing on top of some rocks with great profiles. Sadly I forgot my 100-300 lense and only had my 55 so I did not get a good closeup
Then back into COS and load the RR backup.

Got in and have a couple more pics and stories from the drive between Colorado Springs. Including a Haliburton Radioactive truck More later as I am going to crash early tonight.

I am a set of pictures behind and now in Idaho Falls. I will try to get some up tomorrow if I get back from Yellowstone early enough.
No pictures from the track but I should have some cool video when I get back to Alabama.
Staying at the Red Lion in Idaho Falls Three hooves down. I missed the reservation online then made it over the phone ($20 more a night ) Then they did not have it when I got here Then they have a sign that there is not pool, spa or suana (I picked it because I wanted a Sauna) Oh and the place looks like a 60's honeymoon attraction that is needing serious updating.
Well more when I get some non riding time
EDIT: taking a hot shower was an adventure. No water pressure (can't even imagine how bad it is 3 floors up) and the temperature would take nice 20 degree swings at random

Sorry to hear about the IF downer. Eastern Idaho is home and I MISS it right now. Can't wait to be done with school for good so I can set up shop somewhere between Bear Lake and Idaho Falls.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG
Well I am gearing up and getting ready to head out. I will have to toss the saddle bags on also as I need to bring rain gear. They are predicting 40% with afternoon popups. Hopefully having gear will scare the clouds to rain on undefended people. Also it is 48º so I hope that it warms fast as that is winter temps for me (but it is a dry cold )
I got the loop in the GPS leave Idaho Falls up to West Yellowstone. Into the park and down the east side down to US26. Out to the Bighorn center and Jackalope museum then backtrack. Into Jackson then back to Idaho Falls. I might add a detour on ID47 depending on time to complete, clouds and temps when I get there. Supposed to be a scenic bypass that is paved with mountain roads and views.

Catch up time:
So I leave Colorado Springs and head to SLC on Aug 31. As I leave the hotel
I see a balloon festival with Pikes Peak in the background. I got some pictures but they are poor and it was really great in person.
I thought it would take less time so I sidetracked a few times. I got a picture of the Lincoln monument along the Lincoln highway. Some of tree rock (yep it really looks like it just grows out of the rock. A few of the windmill farms.
I also was going to get one of the Ames Monument which has a cool story. Seems Mr Ames got a monument for all to see his importance. The problem is that the interstate made it so no one goes by it anymore. It is out in the boonies and the road got bad enough I turned the trailer around before I got stuck. Attached is a picture of the 'road'
