Hey! I just want the real story to be out there, I posted slower time than you did right! Only the truth my friend, only the truth
The truth is also that I think that B8 would have kick my ass this year.

I don't doubt it. Look at the posted times, there is only a .5 second difference between the 600 and the best of the 1000's. Grattan is only HP track in that if you can get in front on the straights, you can slow the other people up in the corners.

I'm sure we would have been dicing it up having a good time. Now we have something to shoot for next year.

Better bring your butt next year pall! The Dunlop guy was able to be at the race in time, so would you

I think that we saw a 28.8 or a 28.6 something like that anyway, next year will be MUCH better.
Either way I had an absolute blast and only had a lap timer for half a day on the first or second day... either way I beat my fastest lap of a 1:30.3 before 2 pm on day one
I couldn't imagine shaving another 10 seconds off this years time, but I think with enough time in the seat I could get another 4-6. but who has 70 years.

I am not completely sure, but I think the lap record at Grattan was once set on a 600. I do agree with gt702, Grattan isnt a horsepower track. One particular day, spectating races there, convinced me of this... Maybe there are others on here that may remember this very day...
Jamie Hanshaw on his Dega Racing gixxer 600, (and many will agrue, just exactly what size engine was under that bodywork...) and Rad Greaves on his Racing 'Busa!!! Never have I witnessed such skill, Rad riding the wheels off that 'Busa! Around 240 bhp, in a modified gixxer 750 frame, and sub 450 lbs! How Rad kept the front wheel down as much as he did, is beyond me! Never, in person, have I EVER seen a bike accelerate as fast as that one! Picture this...coming on to the front straight, rear end slightly out of line, rear tire spinning, and the front tire about 2 ft. off the deck!!! All this while finishing that turn!!! His pit crew had buckets of ice water, that he would dunk his arms into, up to his elbows, to keep his forearms from pumping up!! Now for the kicker!
Hanshaw won that race! A great rider himself, Hanshaw did dominate back in the GLRRA days that I remember. Lap after lap, these two battled and on every lap of that race, Rad only lead on the second half of the front straight. Whether that was a 600 or something a little bigger, I would say that its suspension was perfect on that day!
At the end of that race, my brother and I just looked at each other, speechless, from what we had just witnessed! Speechless from the skill that those two guys displayed, and speechless from the performance of whatever size bike that Hanshaw was on...

In private, Jamie said it was legal displacement, but he did know how to breath life into it for that track, and rode the wheels off of it. He didn't leave a fraction of a second on the track most days.
As for Rad, the only place he could open that thing up was on the straight, everywhere else he had to be careful of high siding himself to oblivion. And if the front was really 2 ft off the deck, then he was leaving a lot of time still on the track.

Robert Jensen set a new record at Grattan this year of 1:17.399 on a GSXR1000. The fastest lap in a car was 1:05.003 in a Lola T333 in 1981...

If I remember correctly, Jamie's breath could be very heavy! LOL His bike was well set up, which made Rad's day all the more impressive, in keeping up with Jamie. Cant imagine keeping that 'Busa on the edge for an entire race...
