    John Ryan's UCC

Please join me in congratulating 2005 IBR Finisher John Ryan for his latest venture, and unofficial (They don't keep official records anymore, but the ride is well documented) record between Prudhoe Bay, AK and Key West, FL. He finished this afternoon in a total time of 86 hours, 15 minutes. IIRC, 5632 miles.

Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a ride.

He did it on an FJR1300.

fast... especially after factoring in border crossings and fuel stops.

I'm told that his block time average was 64.6 mph and that his moving average was about 72. I haven't computed it myself. It IS my understanding that he lost some time at a border crossing.

    Heck of a ride, though.

Hi. New here, but I wanted to post a link to photos and discussion over at Adventure Rider. We were part of a group that met John in Key West. Amazing ride and congratulations to John!

    Thread is here.

Hate to focus on the speed, but those are fantastic numbers...

Well, when talking to him in the recent past he's been clear that he doesn't ride particularly fast, he just doesn't stop much. The fuel tank on the bike is pretty impressive.

Even still with gas, facility and some sleep.... he was moving along nicely. But did he get the gratutious sheep picture no ride is quite the same without one

    Oh and 5600 miles

When I saw the bike at the Redwing19 ride, it appeared to have an expanded main tank, quite a bit larger than stock. Someone said it held 13 gallons, but I didn't hear that from him. Big tank, though.

That's quite a feat! I can't imagine doing that, or even being able to do that, or...wanting to.

But that's why this is such a great sport. Something for everyone.

Indeed, I can't imagine looping around the same section of track again and again and again, and again...but for many, it's just fine. I go in enough circles elsewhere in life to make up for it tho

The LD riding thing is something I see myself getting into as time goes on....not sure why though, I just find myself paying attention to it more.
5 years ago if you gave me all the money I wanted to do whatever on a bike, a sick trackbike would have topped the list. Now it would fit into the list about half way down. it's sort of odd. Early mid life crisis, or am I getting ready for that?
