Took in another stray...
I've been after this bike for several years, I found out about it sometime in 2004 if I remember correctly. There's a small town not to far from here, and this was a police impound bike. The guy ran from the cops, and didn't get away, so they confiscated the bike (or so I'm told).
The tag on the bike expired in 02, so that must have been in 2001. Supposedly, they filed all the necessary paperwork for the forfeiture of the title, etc, but in the years that followed they have managed to lose all records of the bike. This was sitting in an old run down building that they used for storage, and the building was recently demolished. I have been constantly asking about the bike (a friend of mine is on the PD there) and they have been planning on putting it up for auction for a long time, but since there's no records, they told him to dispose of it. The fate of the bike now rests on whether or not I can get a title for it. I'm going to talk to some people in the city offices to see if I can at least get a bill of sale (buy it for $1, or whatever, just so I can have SOMETHING to go on) and then try to get it titled. If the title thing doesn't work out, at least I can use it for spare parts for the other one. I just hope I can get it sorted, the bike is all there, and sure it needs work, but I still think it's worth "saving". Any thoughts on how to go about getting this thing titled? |

Re: Took in another stray...
I think you just apply for a lost title. It would be a good idea to get a copy of the police confiscation report etc (strange they can steal a bike for running though) and a bill of sale. The title should show up in the previous owner still but I would think a retitle would be easy since the state decided he no longer owned it. Something does sound fishy on it though....

Nice find, tattoo-boy.
![]() Now you have a title, even if the bike doesn't...

Re: Took in another stray...
Yup. Give it to me and I'll get it titled.
Call the DMV and tell them the situation. You'll probably need a statement from the police department to verify the circumstances.

Re: Took in another stray...
Nice canvas....
I've only done the missing title thing once, and that was here in Hoosierland. Took several police checks and a hefty fee for a lien/title search. Ended up only being able to get a salvage title, but it was a track car anyway, so it didn't matter. That bike looks pretty sound, and is probably a super candidate for resto....but I just can't help but think that you should amp it up a notch and do a nice 6X replica...

What are you thinking for the extra V4 in the garage?

I hope the build is well-documented and photographed... looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
