Will a 954 run normally without the instrument panel?
I am thinking of a naked stunt bike conversion for a 954.
Will the bike run normally if I remove the entire instrument panel? What about that infamous tip over sensor? If it is removed will it affect the engine? I am thinking to make my front end look like that BMW the factory guy uses in competitions... totally stripped with a MX handlebar.... |

The bike will not start without the instrument cluster due to the odometer being integrated into it. I think you'd need the HRC ECU to get it to work.
The bank angle sensor can be bypassed but you're probably better off just relocating it.

Yikes! No other way? I guess I would not be surprised.
I saw a youtube video of a stunt rider in Mexico on a stripped 954. I am imagining he did not have a HRC ecm as it was just a small local carnival somewhere.... wonder how he did it.... |

Disconnect the speedo as if you were going to install a speedo healer and then bypass the Bank angle sensor you should be able to run it fine. My 1KRR runs with out it, if that's any help.
The BAS is a good thing to keep though

Re: Will a 954 run normally without the instrument panel?
Bring it by my house and I will smash the bastard in to a million pieces..... Then you will have the perfect stunt bike.
I will even weld you a roll cage. When messing with the front end wiring and instrument cluster, make sure you know exactly what you are doing ..... Northern, a BAS would be useless for stunting since the thing sits on its side quite often. You can bypass it. The instrument cluster needs to stay wired in...... as ND4SPD spoke I hate seeing 954s being used like this.... but I guess every good sportbike needs a home.

Re: Will a 954 run normally without the instrument panel?
Well, you wouldn't be the first to call me crazy.
Yep, the BAS would need to go, somehow... But I will keep riding a 954 on the street. I still believe the 954 is probably the most perfect street sportbike ever.... and I have owned a few bike over the years. Nothing has thrilled me on the road like a 954. I have only had one for a year. I have had the very capable F4i the past couple of years..... How I wish I had gotten a 954 sooner! So, I must keep the instrument cluster..... can I move it to the tail storage area? I have a friend who can surely do it. |
