First Problem with F4i
For the last month or so when I shut off my bike ('02 F4i 6K miles) it won't start up again without giving it a lot of throttle if it is still hot. If I try to start it immediately after I shut it down it will start back up but roughly at first then smooths out. If it has been 30 minutes or so then it usually has cooled enough that it will start up fine again. However, if it has been 2-30 minutes then it will just turn over but won't fire. If I give it a twist while pushing the starter butten then it will usually catch and fire up but leaves a strong fuel smell behind. It seems more like starting my carbureted dirt bike than a FI streetbike. What would cause this? Fuel pressure regulator?

Re: First Problem with F4i
I seem to remember my F2 doing similar things and it ended up being a clogged air filter.

Re: First Problem with F4i
I was going to say the same thing. Not about having an F2, just the air filter check.

Re: First Problem with F4i
I put in a new air filter today. It didn't seem to change anything. The one that was in the bike only had 6K miles and looked as good as new but it was five years old (original) so I figured it would be a good place to start. There is still the smell of excess fuel when I try to start it while hot. Everything looked copasetic under there. I don't know where to go next. It runs as well as ever, actually seems better with each mile. It really seems like over the last 2K miles that the engine has loosened up and is delivering more power and the transmission is shifting smoother. There is just an initial start up problem that is annoying me.
