    General Maintenance on a 99 900RR

I was reading the Haynes Service and Repair manual and i noticed in some of the maintenance items start out saying stuff like "Every 8000 miles or 12 months (whichever comes first)". Now when i purchased the bike i bought the extended warrenty and had the Honda Techs give the bike an initial inspection so i would have a good feel for where it was and what i needed to concentrate on in the future. The only issue that stuck out was the brake pad less than 50% wear. I have changed those with EBC HH pads about a month ago. Recently i hit the 12000 mile mark and check the manul when i noticed the 12000 miles or every 18months. My question to this is since the bike is 7 years old should i go ahead and do everything that the book recommends?

I'm thinking yes i should at least check out what i can so tomorrow i'm changing the brake fluid, checking sag, plugs, and whatever else i can get too.

Any suggestions on the brake fluid change? Use mighty vac etc...what about the other maintenance items over 3 years etc?

Check the lines, if they have any sign of wear or cracks in the rubber (assuming that they are stock) replace them. Do not speculate of this item, when in doubt change them.

The fluid, I would suggest to remove the lines loose from the calipers and let the fluid drain into a pan. Reattach the lines (torque the banjo bolts to spec.). Place the new fluid in the reservoir and bleed them , you may get a little more old fluid out of the system after doing this but that is OK. You can bleed them the old way (pump and crack the bleeder) or use the vac system.

You can do it by breaking the bleeders as well, it is just a little faster removing the hoses. What ever works.

If you're removing the lines anyway, pull the calipers and hold them upside down until all the old fluid is out of them. If you're really anal about your brake fluid, pop the pistons out and clean the inside of the calipers.

Coolant should be changed every 2-3 years. At 12k miles, I'd also replace the plugs, and check the valves. Also check the carburetor synchronization.

thanks for the information...unfortunatly i wimped out on the brake fluid change due to heat LOL we only managed to reinstall the K&N Air Filter. That in itself btw made a noticable difference in the bike's performance. I'll get to the others next weekend.
