My 929 kickstand broke!

Can you believe it? I parked it on my driveway to open up the garage door. When I got back on, the kickstand gave way and buckled. I barely was able to save the bike from falling over.

Looking at it, the kickstand broke at the base where the kink is. I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

Just really weird. Luckily it broke as I was getting back on.
Now with pictures.

Time to get a new bike. Has Conq or Chain ever has that problem? I think not.

you guys are hilarious.

Thing is, does anyone have one used in good working order and willing to sell/ship to me? Please? Ebay has 1 for $60 US, but wants $33 to ship to Canada (kinda high)

Check with some junk yards. New & Used Motorcycle Parts, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki CycleTherapy.Com has one for $50 + $15 for shipping.

Wow...wonder what caused it to fail. I pivot my bike on the stand all the time. I'll have to take a close look at it now after hearing this. Interested in seeing the pics when you get them posted...

As do I. And compared to most modern sport bikes, Honda's tend to have a pretty beefy kick stand.

Why do I get the impression that you have had a few mishaps with bikes...

Bummer man but at least you saved it from hitting the ground, unlike my similar situation on my old ZX-14. Of course the reason this happened is they must have subcontracted the kickstands out to Kawasaki

Hey all, thx for all those who replied to this thread - except for maxib.

Anyway, I'll get some pix tonite, I was in a rush to get to work this morning. I'm not sure what caused the failure. I've _maybe_ pivoted my bike on the stand no more than 5-6 times top, just to show to people that it can be done. I did it once about a month ago, and it wasn't even a full 180 swing. It was to move it maybe 10-20 degrees.... if even that.

It looks like somehow it rusted?? Don't know. Again, I'll try my best to get some shots before nightfall.

Jetbdude: Thanks a bunch for your generous offer. I went and ordered a brand new one (b/c as it stands, the bike is blocking the car, and I can't use either....) and I need my car ASAP - have to pick up my parents from the airport.

The price for a new one isn't "bad". $57.65+13% tax CAD.

I tried several salvage places local, no one had any. :|

I'm not too mechanically inclined, so I rather just go plug&play with OEM.

So... what did you do with the bike when you wanted to get off it?

Luckily, my GF was in the house at the time, so I called her out. With her holding the bike, I put it on the rear stands. Thank goodness I had them... or else, I don't know, lean it against the wall on the handlebar and frame slider with a carpet in between? Don't know.

I lean mine up against a wall every now and then. Won't hurt it.

I've also used a dirt bike triangle stand, costs about $12. You can put it in the axle or, in your case, through the mounting hole for the kickstand.

Looks like the weld failed, but the break and metal look clean. I'd be more worried about all that spooge on the fairing though...

That is a weird looking break. FWIW, you could probably find a welder in your area to put that back together for $20.
