929 Erion

Looking for opinions on a 929 with 20k on the clock.

I still think the GSX-R 750 is the perfect sport-bike to serve the purpose I'm looking for but as I take a realistic look at what I want to spend, finding a decent used copy is proving rather difficult.

By luck I happened across an Erion 929 and will be going to take a look tomorrow morning. If we can reach an agreement and I like the condition of the Blade, she'll be coming home with me.

I've owned and put some miles on a 954. The local speed shop has told me he'd prefer a 929 over the 954 and that it should make a decent bike for me to go out and play on.

How do you guys think the 929 will be as a street/track bike? Particular problems to look for?

Thanks!

PS: One big benefit is that I will be keeping my promise to Honda.......to NEVER buy a brand new bike from them again!

The 929 is a good bike but from what you were looking at, it is dated. The current bikes have so many upgrades done to them it is worth it IMO to go as new as your budget allows.

True, but we're talking track toy....and not trying to be competitive at that.

The thousands saved will buy leathers, gloves, boots, tires, trackdays, etc.....

So are you still looking for something that is streetable?

A good racebike would be good, will have many upgrades already on it. You can pick them up for under 6K well set up and still have $$ to spend.

As Hammer pointed out in another thread parts will be much more available for the GSX-R. More of the cool toys are available for the newer bikes as well. They didn't discontinue the F4i until '06 and already parts are drying up for it. A lot of the new products aren't made for it at all. For me I would rather have an up to date track bike than an up to date street bike. On the track you can actually use the new technology. On the street all a new 600RR would do for me is use more gas. A lot of the newer bikes have made some great advances in handling that put them well ahead of the older bikes. Also the newer bikes are going to have better suspension, slipper clutches, things like that.

Agreed. And how many of us ride at a level that can utilize all the latest and greatest? A good rider on an older bike will still smoke a lesser rider on the latest and greatest.

Yes, it needs to be streetable and relatively inexpensive. At least until the time off from work and funds catch up to the addiction and I'm getting to more than a few track days/year. I will be doing the "essentials" for a fun day at the track and not adding all the latest toys to make this a racing machine. Remember, I'm an experienced Liter-bike rider and a track day noob. This is just a bike to get me into a whole new world. More specialized machines can always come later.

Besides, I'm hoping to get it for a price that will allow me to get a decent percentage of the money back out. It shouldn't be too hard to go a different route in a year or so if I choose. If not, then I walk and keep looking.

Thanks for the inputs! Even from the Haterz!

I'd opt for a 954 if going down that path...but thats just me.

The 929 seemed to eat footpegs, the 954 not so much...maybe it's the progression of a rider
The 929 was comfy but I felt lazy on it, the 954 was just north of entertaining while remaining south of busy.

If I saw one on the cheap (like, hey its in a few boxes but give me a couple k and it's yours) I wouldn't care - they're both the same to me then

Thanks for reminding me I need to buy a sportbike again too

This is the case, except the bike is complete and from the pics it looks well taken care of.

I thought I'd escaped a few times myself but I've come to realize that once your're in the "family" there is no leaving the "family."

Well, went to look at the bike.

Very nice condition for 8yrs old and 21,000 miles. Almost too nice to put on the track.

I set out with a number in mind and we just couldn't reach a deal.

I really don't think he wanted to sell it anyway and I can't say I don't know how he feels. I still miss my RC.

The search continues.......

Probably just as well...have you seen the list of shady characters that owned the Erion?

No I haven't.

I guess your right. The plan (for the next 5hrs at least) is to sell the VFR and find a deal on an '07 or '08 GSXR 750.

She was a nice bike though.
