Battery - Twice Now
I've had to push start my bike twice in the last month. The first time it was after riding for about 40 minutes of puttering around in town. Probably never had it over 6K rpms and had my highbeam on so I chalked it up to that. Yesterday though I was on the freeway so right around 6K rpms to go 75mph then about the same down a highway for 10 miles. After that I had to cruise through a town 25mph (so low revs) about 2 miles maybe. I shut the bike off to take some pictures of the flooding. Went to start it and it gave a half-hearted chug then nothing. After both times I just rode home keeping it in low gears for high revs and it seemed just fine. Do I need to just not ride with highbeam and low revs, or is the battery on the way out? It is the original battery from '02.

I'd bet battery too. Do you keep it on a Battery Tender over the winter?
I feel your pain. I push started my bike all through Grattan last year.

That's probably why it lasted this long.
They'll be plenty of people around to help push start it though if you go that route.

The 929/954s were famous for eating batteries. In 3 seasons I went through 4 batteries.

never had an issue with my 929 and batteries, but as stated above, I rode it EVERY day no matter what. That makes a difference for sure. Bikes that sit around, even when on a battery tender device, aren't exercised like one that is always discharging and charging.

I have had 2 929s and never replaced a battery. the old bike I know had the original battery as it had the honda logo on it, not sure on the current one but I haven't replaced it in the 3 years I've had it. it did die once this year after I had drove it out from the backyard I shut it off and it needed a jump but it was hard starting when I first started it that day. haven't had any problems since. a friend I used to ride with had an 01 F4i and it used to die every so often. Mostly when riding around Boston so it was low revs.
