question about *gasp* exhaust

Does anyone know off-hand if I could fit another brand's end can on the 2 Bros full exhaust on my 900? I don't like the 2 Bros. can, it's old, dull and scratched, and I want something more modern looking. A guy on rrzone said he put a D&D can on his 2 bros. exhaust without a problem, but there's no way I'm running a D&D. If the midpipe diameter is the same, could I put another brand's slip-on muffler on? What other considerations are there (angles of pipe, etc)? TIA!

Yes, they sell up-to-date bolt-ons, but since the bike has a full system it doesn't have the 4 bolt flange. It has an actual slip-on held on by the springs like a lot of full systems.

Can you have the can re-surfaced? Some nice CF and, say, an Acropovic sticker?

Failing that, you could measure the pipe and see if Yosh has a race can that would spring-clip in place. Might have to fab up a hanger.

Did you call them to see if there's any way to adapt it?

I could have the can refinished--there is a dude on rrzone who offered to do it for me, but I was just seeing initially if there was a way to "plug and play," so to speak. I may end up going that route actually.

I just got off the phone with 2 Bros. and they said that basically any slip-on will fit IF the midpipe has the same diameter and if the bend in the midpipe matches correctly.

So, the problem I see is more about the bend in the midpipe. But, if that doesn't match, perhaps a custom hanger could be fabricated.

A thought just occurred: I'm going to go home and measure it tonight as I think that the muffler only slips on a few inches, so maybe the bend in the midpipe doesn't really matter (hope that explanation makes sense to all). If that's the case and I can use other mufflers, do I have to order them from companies as a "replacement" part since it would, theoretically, be part of their full system?

Sooo...I went home and measured and the midpipe is 2" in diameter, and the slip-on portion only slips on 2 inches. I also checked, and the F4i also has a midpipe with a 2" diameter.

Looks like I'll be looking for an F4i slip-on!

There is no shortage of those. Look for one that mounts with the "band" type thing that isn't actually fixed in place so that you can move it to match the hanger on your bike.

Do you have a PCIII with a custom map? Just thinking a change in end can may change things a bit on that end...

The 900RRs had carburetors.

Yep, it has a jet kit, but to be honest I'm not really going to worry about throwing an end can on there as, IMO, it's the least important part of the system. Regardless, if it starts acting funny I supposed I could either throw the 2 Bros. back on or have it rejetted.
