If you ever try the Versys you'll find it can be fun in the twisties. It's like riding an oversized motard, and still get nearly 60mpg.

Not in Canada or there would be spikes in the tires.... river looked like TN....maybe even near the Cherohala.... just a guess.

Welcome cool bikes, met a fellow on sheep day with one like your red one. He had Honda stickers on it though

Thanks for the welcome,

The picture of my Versys is actually only a few miles from where I live in Ohio. The KLR picture is the back side of Rich Mtn Road towards Townsend TN.

Rich Mtn road is one of the ways to escape out of the Cades Cove loop. Its a fun road on a dual sport, not so much fun on a street bike. Parsons Branch road is another one and it drops you off in the middle of the Dragon. They improved it so much last year they may as well have made it a highway. It is only one of two roads that actually opens onto the Dragon between the lake and Deals Gap. The other is a road that takes you back to the dam.

I originally started riding as a teenager in the dirt on old 2 cycle bikes not much bigger than 150cc. I've only been riding on the road for the last 12 years.

I've had several bikes over the years from an old '85 250cc Rebel to a 1500cc Vulcan Cruiser. I had a wrecked Honda 919 that I was going to salvage, but it turned out to be worth more in parts than it was worth fixing. That's what gave me the down payment on the Versys.

I've rode several sportbikes, but I've not found the right one yet for my fat ass. ZX14 and the Hayabusa are too heavy and wide for my short legs, the SV's are great, but I've had bad experience with Suzuki dirt bikes. Love the ZX10, but I know I would end up with numerous tickets. I've rarely turned down an offer to ride a bike I've not ridden before. That is why I look for demo rides whenever possible.

In short, I like most all bikes from vintage to modern, but I will admit to disliking the modern crop of over priced HD's. I've had too many people that have pushed for me to buy one and be in debt like them. It's sad when my KLR can out corner them in the twisties, and when I'm on the Versys they really get pissed.

In short, I've not found my perfect all round bike yet, but the search has been fun.

Nice choice of all-around bikes - Glad you're aboard so we can be informed of your continuing search.

Indeed! Welcome Maloy. I dig the bike choices. I've always been curious about the Versys as it seems to be a mash-up of everything good from all the major bike types. Stay a while, won't you?

Howdy, G-L-A-D to meet you.

Don't listen to the people egging you on to buy a Harley (and go into deep debt), you'll thank yourself later. You've got some cool bikes that aren't run-of-the-mill, I give them
