Howdy from the Big Sky

Stumbled across this site while Googling something and y'all seemed to just as much of junkies as I am! So I figured, "Why not!?"

I've been riding for a few years. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend Jason Pridmore's STAR School. As such, I now have delusions of club racing in the near future. (Read: getting my ass handed to me on a weekly basis.)

When the weather permits, I ring the neck of my CBR F4 (which is for sale) here in Montana. I don't stunt, mainly because I can't, but more because I know there is too much to learn on a track and becoming a proficient rider. However, I do enjoy watching it occasionally. I like go-fast and I'm fast becoming a track slut.

I love MotoGP and all that it represents. WBK is also enjoy because of its production roots. While AMA isn't tip-top right now, I honestly feel that the new DMG rules and ownership is a sham ... but I'll save that hot topic for another thread!

Cheers! ... and keep the shiny side up!

Montana, eh? Sounds pretty good to a boy stuck in Detroit. You got sky and mountains and nice stuff out there, don't you? We've got a lot of potholes here.

Welcome - You're going to fit right in.

Big Sky country! Load that F4 into a trailer and follow one of our own from the land of potatoes to Grattan at the end of June!

Welcome, Bob!

Tragic City, huh? I'd love to know the story behind that one.

Wow!! This is probably the biggest welcome I've had yet. Jeebus, I think y'all are right, I have found the right place.

Yes, I am a Sigma Chi. I now advise the undergrads at Montana State.

Tragic City, you ask? PM me and I'll give you the low down.

Honda Gal Too - If you think Big Mountain is cool, try Big Sky. It will blow your mind, I promise.

Grattan? I do love me some track time! I'll investigate further. Anyone have a link to the thread?

Everyone else - Thanks for the stellar welcome!

I'm passing through your beautiful state tomorrow morning enroute to the SBK races... Why don't you come up to Calgary and race that CBR in the CMRA? Round 2 is June 21-22

I like!

However, I need to make the bike track-worthy (safety wiring, body work, et al), AND I would need my CMRA racing license. But even before that, I'm trying to sell the puppy in favor of a newer street bike. And then ... I can think about a dedicated bike to flog at the track/race with.

But I've never though about racing in Canada. It might be just as close as Miller, which is my closest track.

Why not keep the F4 for a track bike?

That's a great idea except I'm not quite where I can run two bikes. Furthermore, and against better judgment, I still enjoy street riding. So until I can run a dedicated track bike AND a street bike, I'm relegated to one.

I do know that the F4 would be a good track bike. Next year, I could run in the 10+ year old class (the proper name escapes me), but the jetting and labor needed to make it competitive would be tough, but doable.

Nonetheless, lots to think about. Right now, I'm very much in the planning/feasibility stages. I KNOW what i want to do, now I just have to find a way to MAKE it happen.

Well in a choice between Miller and Race City, both being equal distance from your location, I guess I would lean ever so slightly to Miller.

Yeah, and I think you might be ever so slightly Canadian.

Hey now ... Canucks have some delicious and tasty beer that I enjoy quite frequently in the winter months or when skiing in Whistler.

Well unless you're training for the IOM TT and you want to practice with walls and small burrowing mammals.
