I think the key word there is "art", as in subject to interpretation.

Interesting bike though. Notice the side radiators like an RC? Kind of Ducati-ish style. Ohlins suspension. No data on weight that I saw, nor price.

EDIT: oops 40K and 425 dry weight

Re: Looks like a duck, sounds like a pig...

The "State of the Art" part comes in due to the fact that no other Harley has ever put out 120bhp and had a claimed dry weight of 425lbs.
That combined with a steel frame means this thing will kick ass.

Over 600cc bikes from 1992.

Hmmmm CBR1000rr & Aprilia 550 RSX & Honda CBR125r & CBR600rr Trackbike & $10,000 cash or 1 ripped off design, over-priced, heavy, slow, out of date before its even released giant pile of crap.

Thats a tough decision.

Styling was definitely ripped from the Ducati ... and it is only 15lbs (dry-weight) heavier than the 999 (26lb more than the 999R).

Kind of like the Hyosong version of the SV650 ....

180HP is impressive.

I'll stick with the Hayabusa though.

Hardley has finally realized the need to try and catch the attention of the younger bikers. I hate to tell them, younger motorcyclists can't afford a $40,000 bike.

These bikes will sell for a couple years to the HD purists and then dwindle away.

that's great for heat dissipation.

in any event - you have to hand it to the guy for his diligence. He's been promoting this thing for the last three years and has gotten lots of press coverage. I figure even though it looks like a duc...so did most other sportbikes after ducati introduced the 916 back in '94 - so imitation is the supreme form of flattery...when others imitate you, you must be doing something right.

the web is full of interviews with the guy - this one from '94 saying he needed about $500k in funding to build the bike.

I guess he's given up on raising money and figures if he can get a 20k deposit out of 50 people, $1m is better than the $500K he was looking for.

Roadracing World Breaking News

good luck to the guy...

how many bikes these days have exhaust cans up under the seat?

twin lights where only two are on when the high beams are on?

just two examples that come to mind quickly...

Oh, so you're citing examples of things Ducati copied from others, rather than things they brought on their own.
Then yes, I agree. Many bikes have styling cues that existed before the 916, just as Ducati used existing styling cues.

you are correct...everyone takes styling clues from everyone else...

but you have to admit - the 916 in 1994 was a revolutionary design...

I still remember reading an article on it in a magazine and being awestruck and the beauty of the bike. That was on a Sunday. Monday morning I was on the phone with three of the local Ducati dealers getting my name on the list to get one of the first batch.

and this weekend I will own another... 916 that is....

The NR750 had undertail exhaust a couple years before the 916. I'm sure that's not the only thing Ducati lifted off of that bike.

Just read the review in Roadracing World. With a little more suspension development, that would be a cool bike. Apparently set up to be a decent street oriented sport bike. Good luck to him.

Very interesting but still 50 pounds heavier than a 1098R with no more power.

Don't forget the shitload of street cred for having an HD motor

I do wish him luck but it's a tough environment to introduce a high-dollar toy these days.
