Now there is an iRobot for your Garage :)

Now from the iRobot Corporation: iRobot Dirt Dog ...

How does iRobot Dirt Dog™ differ from iRobot Roomba?
Unlike the Roomba, iRobot Dirt Dog uses powerful, high-speed brushes, instead of a vacuum, to pick up small nuts, bolts, dirt, dust and other debris that end up on your workshop floor. The brush design, as well as the heavy duty wheels, was built to pick up and withstand the stubborn dirt and debris found on workshop, basement, garage and industrial floor surfaces.

How does iRobot Dirt Dog™ know where to clean? Do I have to program it?
There’s nothing to program. iRobot Dirt Dog’s sensors figure out the size of your room and continually readjust its cleaning pattern until it has covered the whole floor, multiple times.

How does iRobot Dirt Dog™ differ from other workshop vacuums?
iRobot Dirt Dog picks up small nuts, bolts, dirt, dust and debris that other vacuums may not get to, leaving you more time to get back to work, or kick up your feet after a long day. With a bagless design and no filters to clean or replace, its easier to empty.

Oh...and since I have a garage that was used as a woodship when building my house, I will dish out a review on this thing once mine gets here...it has it's work cut out for it...

Ah, but if you leave your broom laying on the floor when you leave for work - the only advantage is when you drive over it accidentally when you get home - another one is only 3$

My only issue is the size of that thing. Just sweeping out the garage every other week from "normal" dirt would be enough to choke that thing. Can imagine it having very good suction from something that small.

Will await personal reviews.

If it's bagless and has no filter, I bet it kicks up a lot of dust with the brushes spinning at 1k rpm.

I didn't think the iRobot - Cleaning Robots: Vacuuming: iRobot® Roomba® Scheduler Vacuuming Robot was cool, but we got one for my girl's folks for Christmas and they love it. It does a really good job, I was very suprised...thought we would be returning it.

The dirt dog is actually a counterrotating high speed brush set with a funky bin setup...no vacuum, basically like a roving dustpan. But it is supposed to be able to handle mats and things a little better, and since its not a vacuum can get screws nails etc.

Im not sure...since there is no vacuum to expel the low pressure cavity, I think the counterrotating brushes will keep it to a minimum. I have a TON of sawdust in there now though (havent moved in yet but will have the dog before I do) so I figure on moving day I'll just set it loose out there and see what it does. If it works well - cool. If not, i'll just accidentally set it to go clean my street or something.

You should try putting litter in the box too instead of on the floor.

This will do marvelous for katlitter I would imagine. Though I read (somewhere..I swear) that it has enough clearance and brush depth to handle stuff like peanuts and whatnot.

I'd feed him pretzels but he isn't much of a beer drinker, he likes that moonshine tho.

My cat is a big Garfield fan, doesen't seem to care about much else except Rachel Ray, cause she communicates well with other animals.

Re: Now there is an iRobot for your Garage :)

Got the unit tonight, have some photos and will up em if anyone is interested. Haven't run it yet..won't have the garage for another week and a half anyways.

Initial observations in the first 180 seconds of ownership:

- It's pretty intuitive to operate..err...let operate, big button that lights up green when its ready and red when its stuck, upside down, etc.
- When you charge it, the same button blinks in a bright to dim fade pattern, almost like some type of eerie robotic heartbeat.
- Seems very well engineered and put together. This model seems fairly robust, also has lots of tight tolerances and hidden sensors..which is good because I have some challenges for it
- The cat is not quite sure what to make of it, but I think if I covered the top of it with a piece of fur I would either come home to find the cat patrolling the house atop it, or maybe it would just have a new friend. This thing must have some friendly appearance to pets . I was expecting the pets to challenge it

OK, so I looked at the irobot stuff and bought a roomba red... Got it yesterday. The thing freaking rocks... my office hasn't been this clean since I moved in. And being able to have it run around the kitchen frequently is very nice as well.

I have heard yes and no...the biggest gripe I have seen so far is no one knows where to find the clorox cleaning solution at a brick & mortar. I predict costco will probably solve that or sam's maybe.

As with any product, there are completely lazy F's that never do anything (me) and then bitch about a product (not me) not doing what it claimed it would do. Not alot of people like to mop shit, so they dont...then they buy a scooba to do it and bitch because it didn't clean up their 2 years of non-moppage, or something. Thats just my anyways. If I didn't have hardwoods, I'd probably consider one.

As for the dirtdog...its pimp! I will be turning it loose in the garage on Monday

Well, it hasn't been quite 2 years since we mopped last We just don't like doing it so much and since kids drop food on the floor, it'd be nice to have that thing to go around and scoop and scoob that stuff up.

Re: Now there is an iRobot for your Garage :)

I am not quite sure it's scoopability (yet) but at some point I will probably have to buy a piece of moppable flooring so I have an excuse to get one

According to a couple of roomba forums (don't ask) there is a new version of the scooba coming out shortly...so it may pay to wait a month or so. Also check out woot.com, they are due to have a scooba any day now.

SSG, I try to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I am afraid this is too much! You have issues, serious issues...
