Generator - Did it.

Among my many paranoias are cold tires. Since doing a couple winter time track days, I have noticed that I am wasting too much session time warming the tires. So I finally bought a generator.

Of course, it's too big, because after 14 years in the same house with power outages, I thought at least I'd get something that could run the fridge, t.v., and a few lights.

Now I have a giant 168 lb thingy to load into the trailer. But, hey I can have one serious party at my next track day.

At least it was cheap. A grand with 5 year service agreement.
Here's the Craftman's - I think it's made by Coleman.
Sears thingy
(No thanks, the Hondas are way too expensive for me.)

Nice genny...but I hope your neighbors aren't close by. Hondas are expensive because they're so quiet.

Yep I will be looking soon and want quiet. The Yamahas seem to be as good or better though when I read the specs.

That's a great gen to have when the power goes out. but not so sure about the pits. What are the decibals on it? the honda 2000 give out 59db at full load.

I bought Stickboy's 3500 model. It's quieter than most gennys other than the Honda/Yamaha comparable models. Starts first pull every time...

Re: Generator - Did it.

I've got the Craftsman 4000 watt to run the lights, heat, sump pump, etc. in my house when the power goes out. That sucker is LOUD.

I couldn't get the db's. I hope it's not too loud, but I'll insulate it if necessary. I'm sure I can work something out for $100 and some work.

The Gillette is 69 dbSPL A weighted at 18 feet. Not bad for a 4.3 liter V6 powered system

LP. We considered a diesel, but if it went unused for a year or so, I would lose my fuel investment. Our house/business is LP fired, so I will use the fuel one way or another . . .

Seems to be a good plan!
We are thinking about going that route on the house we are building.
