Who's driving?
Thats the problem, heavy starting 1 phase motors don't like GFI's and will falsely trip them. GFI is a good thing where a high shock hazard is present (like dropping a blowdrier in a sink or tub of water), but otherwise, can be a pain in the ass if your trying to run machinery off them.

You can just get a GFCI circuit breaker at which point anything attached to the circuit is protected.
