    compressor drain plug

I have a 20 gallon upright compressor (cheap noisy campbell). I try to be diligent and drain the thing after every use from the bottom drain to remove any moisture build up. But seems like every year I strip the drain plug out and need to go find another one.

Anyone have any more permanent fixes for something like this? Or should I not be draining the compressor after every use?

No need to drain it after every use, unless you are in a very humid environment or it will be setting up for a while.

This is similar to what I did on my big compressor.

I did the same as hammer (just make sure it's all rated for the tank psi) the only difference is I have mine running into a bubbler so I can drink the rusty goodness anytime I am thirsty.

A little anti-seize compound on the threads would be a simple fix.

Those petcocks are always a POS, usualy just a sheetmetal handle swedged onto the threaded part. Find a real plumbing store, or someplace like McMaster Carr and they do make ones that are all forged and machined brass. Or go with a ball valve as pictured.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to drain that thing this year. Heck it was given to me as it was made in China. Might be time to toss it and buy a new one.

Yes, What I did was get some brass or galvanized pipe and route the drain out from under the air tank. Then I end the pipe with a lever valve and it works great. I will try and take a picture tomorrow and show you.

    Exactly like in Hammer's thread
