NoMar Tire Changer (Classic)

NoMar Tire Changer

Finally put the Christmas gift to use. Except in my case it was the SomeMar Tire Changer .

The tire changer comes with everything you need, as long as you purchase a mount (hitch mount and floor stands are available) or have a place already set up to mount it. NoMar also provides free videos (video CD or DVD format) that show how to use the changer. You can also download the videos from the website and watch them while waiting for your changer to arrive.

The changer setup itself is easy. Mount the base, attach the arm to the base, and get to business.

I spent several days teaching myself how (not) to demount and mount a tire. While it's all hilarity now, my time in hell for all the swearing will never offset the cost of the changer itself.

What I learned:

1. The hitch mount does not allow the changer's arm to clear the 35" spare mounted on the back of my Jeep. (I ended up modifying my welding table)
2. You cannot mount a tire if the base is not solidly mounted to something. No matter how hard you try and how much you swear.
3. Purchase at least one "XtraHand" or a "YellowThing" when you purchase the changer. You'll have an easier time mounting your tires.
4. Tire lube.
5. Watch the video on tire mounting very, very closely. There is a point where the guy talks about pushing on the tire in a certain way as it's being mounted. If you don't do it, you can put a thousand XtraHands on the rim and you'll still stand there looking stupid as the tire walks itself off the rim opposite the mounting bar.

I got the process down now and, while I'm not at the advertised 21 seconds like the video on the NoMar website, I can swap tires in about 15 minutes without swearing, sweating or throwing things around the garage.

My advice: Get one or get a friend who has one.

Re: NoMar Tire Changer (Classic)

I used the No-Mar mount/dismount bar with my Harbor Freight changer for the first time today. I never even touched a tire iron. I wish I had this before I gouged the RC-51 rims. Highly recommended.

Thanks. Works like a champ, too.

I'm going to try to break the bead on a 35" Super Swamper this week...

Didn't see that coming at all. Awesome.

Re: NoMar Tire Changer (Classic)

I've got their tire spoons and balancer, but already had a bead breaker. I think I'll eventually have the whole kit, but I mainly change motorcycle tires for now. I've lusted after the NoMar changer since I first found them on the web over a year ago.
