Point well taken - I had a roommate that used to say if he couldn't fix it with a butter knife, it was broken beyond repair.

Yeah, crescent wrenches are great, but I made the mistake of only buying the standard one. I had to go back and get a metric one to fit the stuff on the bikes.

Personally I always prefer a 6 point unless I absolutly need a 12 point such as with a 12 point nut or bolt. Also, looks like alot of the lowest grade of box wrenches, personaly I would prefer one set of the profesional polished series.
That kit is the dog's bollocks.

Jeebus. That's A LOT of tools. I'll check it out. I'm mainly looking to supplement what I already have, so buying a whole new set isn't what I need right now. But now I know about their in-store pick up, I'm all about it!

Sears.com

This one is closest to the last kit I bought. It seems like a steep price, but it's actually not a bad deal.

Craftsman 283 pc. Mechanics Tool Set, Metric - Model 33284 at Sears.com
All over it. My truck (Toyota) precludes that as is. I can't remember the last time I used any of my SAE tools.

And they are not really expensive, the L wrench packs with metric and standard is around $25. I forget how much the T handles were.

I'll give it a shot. Though I don't need ball-ends. Many of my fasteners on the 929 aren't very deep, so the ball ends don't work well. But if they are anything like you said, they are worth it. I'll keep looking on their site.

This is all great info! Thanks to everyone for interwebzing for me and sharing their insight!

I'm going to cast a lone dissenting vote here since I'm also on a student budget I can relate to Bob on this. Admittedly it's not a real tight budget now that I'm into grad school and my wife is working but I remember my undergrad budget and sometimes you need a tool but the difference between HF prices and Craftsman prices can mean a month of groceries. If you don't have the money and need the tools the HF stuff will be just fine until the day that you can afford the good stuff. I fully intend to go out and buy one killer set of Craftsman stuff (and apparently some Snap-On screwdrivers) after graduation but for now I've had no problems with my HF stuff. I needed some new metric sockets a while ago and got a 1/4" drive set and 3/8" drive set of laser etched 6 points sockets for $16. So if you are just looking to supplement a few items then I think the HF stuff will work until the day you have a real paycheck. Then you can throw all the HF stuff in an extra box to go in your truck or something?

Coincidentall, I was at Sears this weekend looking at some stuff on sale. I think I'll be picking up a T-handle set here soon.

On another note, I need a 24mm hex head socket to remove the swingarm on my my 929. And I've looked at Sears and a few auto parts joints - but no luck. Any ideas??

Hammer showed you the proper tool.

In a pinch you could also use a bolt with a 24mm head, and two nuts back on to each other. You could go custom and weld them. Not that I'd ever do anything like that.

24mm socket, or a 24mm hex bit for axles, etc? I have one of these:

Cycle Gear - MOTRAX Axle Wrench: Axle Wrench

I bought one of those but have yet to use it. I just leave the pinch bolts tight on that side and loosen the other side. I usually carry it though, just in case.

I think this may do the trick.

... as might this.

I have a buddy loaning me something like this that might work. But to get the axle pivot shaft off, you need a 24mm for both sides. I may have to buy one and borrow another. Who knew that swapping swing arms would be such a hassle!!?

Oh, just get what Evl posted then. They do not make a 24mm "Allen head" that fits on a ratchet.

It's not that hard. One end is threaded onto the axle. I believe it's the rider's right side. Just loosen the pinch bolt on that side only and take it off.

If one is really desperate / creative, a rough approximation of a 24 mm hex can be fashioned by grinding flats on cut-off 1/2 extension.

Worked for me after I punched a hole in my 929 swingarm.
