Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

Ohlins seems to be the default answer but Hyperpro claim their rod damper is speed-sensitive. Cost is similar, with the Ohlins maybe being a bit more.

Which is better and why?

Hyperpro - and only because I had one on my ZX-10 and liked it.

I've had three Hyperpro dampers. They work well.

Well, you asked why and SSG told you, straight up. I personally had an Ohlins on my 954, and also loved it. What you need is for someone to speak up that has owned/used both, and that may be a while coming...

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

I've ridden with both...and others.

Honestly, a good damper isn't very noticable. The older style dampers weren't speed sensative.

Honestly, my favorite ones are by WER, Works Enduro Rider. They mount out of the way.

I don't really like dampers that mount on top as they can be damaged there. Side mounted ones are worse though. Doesn't seem like anything is set up that way anymore.

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

I had a hyperpro on my 954 and was happy w/ it.

If I were in the market right now I'd be looking very closely at PitBull. The WERA guys love Charlie (the owner). His customer service is second to none (I hear, no experience), and the damper is the rotary style which I think is probably more durable than the piston style.

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

I just went from a scotts top mount to an Ohlins piston side mount and it I really dont notice the Ohlins like the scotts as far as resistance but the Ohlins really seems to prevent shakes better, almost like it catches the movement sooner. Im very happy with my Ohlins.

Better mount one of each. It's the only way to be sure.

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

I like the Ohlins on the Gixxer cause it mounts down out of the way and uses the stock mounts but that does not help you very much

I thought you were going to use the stock one?

I thought the stock one worked very well on the '07. Of course, Miller is pretty smooth..

All advances in OC (oscillation control) should be banned...it's taking all the fun out of riding...

I'm using the old-school setup. A round piece of leather sandwiched between two fender washers and adjusted with a bigass wingnut....

In this age of interent bravado, I don't want to be seen riding something that could be construed as a rider aid...it would just be unseemly...

I am. I started this thread after a trackday where my 1000 tried to buck me off with a tank-slapper. My 600rr was not known to me at that point.

Back in the Good Ol' Days, OC was determined by the rider's right wrist.

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

I bought an Ohlins piston-style one. The only downside was that it was quite expensive - around $20,000.00! It did, however, come with a free 1098S.

Re: Dampers: Ohlins VS Hyperpro

If you open it up though, you'll see why it's so expensive...there's a miniaturized clone of Chuck Norris holding the piston rod with his iddy biddy bare hands....

What would happen if Chuck Norris had to fight his miniaturized clone?

My mind can't fathom the universal chaos.
