Anyone have thoughts on which one is good? Vortex, Protek, Light tech? Are they vented?
TIA

I've had two Vortex caps, one would leak on track with a full tank, one didn't.
Seemed vented, never had any issue like that.
Marchesini used to make a really nice one, I'd guess they probably still do.

Vortex on the RC and it hasn't leaked. The venting should be under the cap. A hole will there that runs to a vent tube running out the bottom of the bike

It often falls closed on me. It barely stays open, the wind blows it shut, then I end up with spilled gas, which wasn't an issue until I put on race glass with a belly pan. I'm sick of emptying it out. I tape the damned thing open, but then the tape will suddenly let go, and there's that spilled gas problem again.
It would be nice to gas up at the track without spillage.

Vortex here. No leaks, no issues and do not need a key to open.
Ditto.
I found that the rubber gasket on the cap has poped off on me a few times when i remove the cap. Keep an eye out for this, without the gasket it will obviously leak.
Picked one up on eBay from Slingshot Racing for only $50. No leaks and a perfect fit. It is also vented (better than the stock one).
Some of the less expensive caps not only aren't vented, but tend to get stuck closed (galling?) and also can be tough to get started without cross-threading when screwing closed. Haven't had that problem with the one I picked up.

Had Vortec on the GSXR and I don't believe it was vented. I was in the habit of cracking it open to relieve pressure every time I walked by it and never filled it full.

You know, I'm thinking about it, IIRC you are right. I seem to remember it releasing pressure when I'd open it.

Thanks, well, I certainly don't want my gas tank to implode! Maybe I'll have to keep taping it open, or look into the Slingshot one...

Read the below explanation on newer bikes. That is how my RC is and I am betting so is your zuk. It is not the cap that is vented anymore. There is a vent below the cap assembly that runs into a tube that come out the lower (on Honda's near the kick stand).

I have the Vortex chrome and it never leaks, but does Hiss at me trying to vent a lot. Almost sounds like it is struggling to vent. Sometimes it aggrevates me (not riding) so I just loosen the cap and let it all blow out.
Oh ... I thought you said assless chaps ... I was going to let Baketech know that his expertise was needed over here ...

Sent them an email and they confirmed it's vented. They look nice, and are a bit less expensive than others like Vortex. I may go this route, thanks for the info.
Although, I was told that the Vortex and stock caps aren't vented, as the venting is accomplished through the gas overflow tube. Not sure I buy that since that hole is on the outside of the hole that the cap securely fits in with a gasket.

Talk about reading things the way you want to see them. Is there something about you we should know?? LOL.
