RAM Mounts - my new favorite place.

www.expressmounts.com

Their prices on arms and balls is awesome (run with it, I won't be).
They are located in vegas and shipped same day as promised, and their pricing on most items is very reasonable.

Just thought I'd share, as I recently had a good experience with them, AND it involved ordering some RAM parts.

what else can you possibly put on there and where are you gonna put it? pretty soon you're gonna have to remove the the switches and mount them on RAM mounts that are holding something else on.

If I remove the windscreen...

I got one of these (not the dashboard, the thing above it)
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Images/RCB-MG-R1200GS.jpg

Needed to populate it.

Problem is, everything else I have goes on the bars, I needed a couple of static mounts since I changed up the tankbag to something more useful.

With the recent technology upgrade(s) I've made, I am modifying my technology array to the following, I think:
Zumo660 - Routing/Guidance/Resources/Route modification.
Streetpilot2720 - Will have route, but will serve as an accurate speedo and trip minder most of time.
Zumo550 - Basically, running this until the 660 proves itself. It will be mirroring the 660 task, just on silent mode and no headset connections, etc.

Then there is the radar detector and SPOT messenger as well.

I've got a mass of RAM shit already, but needed a few pieces for the migsel to work, and needed some different lengths of arms and a RAM gig for the SPOT as well.

Aren't you sorry you asked?

I am sorry I have to rewire it all...

3 GPS, whatever happened to the days when people would get on their bikes and just head in a general direction? even when I put the GPS on my bike that's still what I do. But I rarely even even look at it nevermind have it set to any specific destination.

Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black isn't it? (and here I thought "ram mount" is what happens to a sheep)

How much of your riding involves yourself and a passenger hundreds of miles from home in an area you're entirely unfamiliar with?

Not alot of mine does either but when I do (twice last summer) it's pretty nice to know where you're going. It's also alot different when it's just you on the bike and when you're two up for some distance.

In both cases last year we were riding on a network of fire roads and dirty road shit that unless I had a GPS, I'd have spent alot of time trying to figure out wtf to go.

Many people think damn with all that gadgetry it takes the joy out of the adventure. For me its different, I can actually relax when someone or something I am with knows exactly where I hope to stay for that evening, or where the bridge is closed, etc. It stops me from being anxious to get where I am going actually, because I don't have to worry if its dark or light or I can see the map or I can't...I know I can always look at the screen and at least one of us knows

Running multiples...last year I had one running the actual route my friend made for our trip, the 'ideal' route. I had another running our waypointed route dynamically over a topo map, and the 3rd I had running speedo, tracking, and next turn distance and direction. Given the terrain - it was like a rally driver and a navigator...worked out very well.

The SPOT is really just for piece of mind, family and such. Most of the places I ride still have convenience stores, it's just a convenience with the added feature of having someone else help me if need be.

If you're doing it closeup (non projected) make sure you are using matte coated blackout lcd's, or use red segmented LED's.

I would recommend putting it off center, and masking a square area on the screen and scotchbriting it a little so it's less reflective.

I don't really know...haven't got that far yet...my zumo is usually in the corner of my line of sight, with a compass and numbers indicating MPH

I spend a bunch of time on long rides so the GPS is nice. Also it helps find gas when out in the sticks (or on the Blue Ridge) Having a GPS is very convenient

If you mean the ones with the compressed rubber portion that fits inside of the hole in the upper triple, yes. I account it to operator error, however, as I'm convinced I cut too much off of the rubber piece for it to fit properly.

The mount kept loosening up - unsettling when it was responsible for my GPS. I pitched it and went with the clutch reservoir mount with much better and confidence-inspiring results.

Ahh, thanks. That is the one I meant. I just realized it would prevent using the front pitbull stand, so that's just as well.

Now if I could just find a deal on a Zumo 450 somewhere...

I've used a Stemstand for years, it works great, and doesn't interfere with my PitBull. TECHMOUNT - Home

Haven't seen any 450's left anywhere, but http://www.gpsdiscount.com/products/index.html?p=989 has the 550 for like $675...still a silly price though...

I like it because it puts the GPS in a visible location that does not block gauges...

I went ahead and ordered a stemstand from the techmount folks and it came today. Great looking piece! It's on the bike now and feels very sturdy. Now I just need an actual gps to mount on it.

Aussie Hard Men

Don't run into Mick on a regular basis actually! We might have a small population, but it's still a big place. I did ride 600 kms recently with a fractured tibial plateau (was hoping it was just a soft-tissue injury...) but I'm hardly in Mick's league. Was OK riding along, but going in to pay for fuel was a bit tricky...

I have done both but the nice thing of a GPS is you can go off route and not get lost a lot easier (and further). Also I don't have to worry about carrying enough state maps in the touring RR (limited space).
