Good deal on a Garmin Nuvi 855

Costco - $299.99 after $200 OFF Garmin nüvi® 855 4.3" Touchscreen GPS

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...33922#specsTab

299$ for a Garmin Nuvi 855 is a pretty smoking deal.

It doesen't have Bluetooth, oh me oh my...I've had BT on half of the GPS units I've owned and only used it for SMS and maybe 10 minutes of phonecalls, I hate it.

It doesen't come with the traffic transceiver, but it IS friendly with MSN direct and FM/RDS traffic

Aside from that, it DOES have...

-Lane assist with junctionview...
-Remote control (handy for some)
-Voice Recognition (this is the part that makes it pretty cool, is you can talk TO it).
-480x272 Widescreen

This is one of the newer GPS's, that is being price slashed because they are coming out with a new series of units dropping mid May.

This thing is now down to $250 outright.

How serious is that not being waterproof thing? Aren't most Garmin's okay through all but a real frog strangler?

This is not a waterproof unit as in, more than a sprinkle or thoughts of rain and I'd take it off.

Or use a ziploc bag and a rubber band - my redneck-engineered "Aquabox"

Love it! The ~$500 price difference to get a zumo would sure buy a lot of ziploc bags.

Okay, I am seriously tempted to get this thing. On bike music and bluetooth is of no value to me since I wear hearing aids and turn them off when riding(so they then become very effective earplugs. lol.)

The feature set looks real nice. Other than the water resistance thing - is there anything major missing from this one?

Thanks!
Dan

The no traffic is a semi-hang-up for me. Though I don't know how well the US system actually works. In Europe having the traffic updates was AWESOME and they were right on. On a bike I'd really like advance warning of a tie-up since it sucks to sit on a bike.
