Headphones: Skullcandy ASYM - I think it's short for awesome.
I'm using an Amazon link to a hideous color because these are cheap:
Amazon.com: Skullcandy S2ASBZ-WZ Asym Earbuds, (White): Electronics Skullcandy had these in their shop site under 2009 products, but I see they have decided to yank em, so thats why I'm not using their own linkage, sorry. Their main site is www.skullcandy.com though. Anyways...these are designed for "under helmet/under beanie" use. I saw them tonight at Target and after being such a big proponent of their Ink'd series buds for riding, I had to give these a try. Unfortunately I am driving for work tomorrow and will be off-bike for a few days, so no on bike testing yet...but I can say I was able to successfully put them on/in and get my helmet on/off twice without any loss of sound in em That means they didn't shift around on me at all, and they seem to be held in place nicely due to their design - once the helmet is on. The key is they make that nice bend to the ear canal that the regular 'bud-style' headphones do not, which when you have a helmet contacting one end of them...typically results in the 'phone falling out. Speaking of that other end, the flat side with the logo is actually the part which rests flush out of your ear, and is more surface that is the same plane as your head. So when contacting your helmet, the helmet isn't pushing them anywhere but in more. The last but not least factor is, their frequency response is 20hz-20khz and they sport a 13.5mm driver. For the in-ear type units, thats a pretty big honkin driver. Most are 9-11mm. I assume these were made this way to keep the bass in tact as you are riding. I won't glow about them till I have at least a hundred miles and a few on/offs with em, but I thought I should at least share the find. I got them at my local Best Buy (last pair) for $39.95. I perused Target (usually vy. timely with SC products) and they had them too, but only in a hideous black/green combo. They do include a somewhat sturdier version of what seems to be a standard on the upper-end skullcandy stuff now, the zipper pocket holder for the headphones. One side appears to be a structural foam w/nylon cover, and the other half zips onto it as a little mesh cover - pretty trick for carrying in your pocket when not in use ![]() Closing thoughts: Until now I haven't seen an off the shelf headphone/in ear monitors that looked as promising as these, and/or actually had the word "helmet" on the packaging. I'm easy to please...I'll toss these in the wifes jacket pocket before we go riding for the next time and see what she says. She hates headphones because they always fall out on her after an hour or two of riding, sometimes less. If these do the trick...well thankfully thats one less b-day present I have to wonder about

My son seems to have lost my MP3 player
and I have headphones I can't use now Those look cool though. I tried regular buds 2 times and gave up because by the time you get your helmet on they shift. With the volume all the way up I couldn't hear. Those look like they'd work though.

So far they do...but I haven't combined MP3 + bike yet since I have had them. This is sad I realize...but once I take things apart (bike) I take forever to put them back together.

The hype is low.

While not made anymore, I found the Shure e2c's to not only sound excellent, I find them to be exceptionally durable. The three different kinds of inserts make it a no brainer.
They are expensive, but they are well worth it.

They are the first headphones that stayed in my ears (comfortably too!) the first time I put my helmet on! They stayed in my ears the whole time and I hardly knew they were there. Because the cord goes up and around the ear, it wasn't mashed into the bottom cartilage killing my ears and I didn't get the wonderful cord sitting across my cheek. I'd definately use them again and I'm picky when it comes to earphones/plugs. Hunny, looks like you'll have to buy yourself a new pair!

I did give them a shot yesterday for about an hour as well and I'd have to agree that once you figure them out they are about the best in-helmet headphones I have ever had the joy of trying

huh, I might have to pick up a pair of these. Been a fan of skullcandy for a long time and have had or still have a bunch of their stuff; smokin buds, ink'd buds, lowriders, and my alltime favourite GI's

Skullcandy makes good headphones at $25. Went through two pair already. I would have to go through a whole bunch more to equal what I paid for my er6i's.
I really liked the volume control bump on them. Nice feature.
