Agree strongly - they have to be sealed. The skullcandys I have actually have comply earfoams on them (NRR 26 or something like that when used without headphones) but come stock with rubber units that plug up the canal nicely.

I'm with you GFJ - wind noise and crap for 8 hours makes me more tired than driving for 20 straight. But I find with the foam eartipped units I have the ipod at the same setting I do sitting in my office and it's just fine.

The ASYM headphones I posted elsewhere here seem to be even better but I haven't been doing the audio-while-riding thing lately since I got some custom E.A.R. earmolds and have been enjoying them

These Comply earfoams, can they be had at Target as well?

Do you have your Zumo in the stock GS mount on the screen support? Is the wire from the Skullcandies long enough, or will I need an extension?

They do have a set of headphones with the comply foams at target but I think they are the 40-50$ units. I don't think they sell the foams separately unless online.

I have my Zumo on the stock GS mount which is actually a ram unit, so I clipped it to my bars. It's long enough if I go straight from unit up. I highly recommend the 5$ for a Belkin extension though, you can snake the earphone wire down your coat and then 'detach' more portably with the extension.

..and honestly, I've used my Zumo for sound about 44 seconds, really just so say I did it

The Zumo 660 actually has a umbilical cord that ends up right at my seat, it's pretty trick

If you find an extension with an inline volume control, let mr know. With my etymotics, my Zumo is on its lowest setting (5% I think?) and its too loud anywhere except for on the highway. Around town with no wind noise, I turn it off.

I have a Monster cable splitter with 2x volume controls that I use for such circumstances, but nothing integrated into the extension cable itself.

GFJ do you have the mixer turned all the way down or the general volume when you experience that?

Mixer? Is that in the zumo? I am not using any sort of external mixer, earphones plugged directaly into zumo base.

Ooops, new Zumo calls it "mixer" the old one I think it is just "audo control" You have Navigation / Audio , and then Main volume IIRC...are you saying to roll with the whole thing turned low as possible and it's still shrieking? You may want to make sure your "audio source" volume is adjusted

I just received a set of the ER6i's, and they are by far better then anything else I've tried for listening while riding (thanks again for the info BizJetGuy ) They came with several different sets of rubber and foam earpieces and so far I think I like the foam the best. My normal earplugs are rated for 33dB noise reduction and the ER6i's are rated 34/36dB.

I took them out for a short 500 mile test ride yesterday, and so far so good

Ok I'll order some and let you know, damn you.

Where you get them and how much?

Speaking of the communicator solution thread...
I have an Autocom Active-Plus unit in one helmet and the Scala Rider Q2(v3) in another.

All I know is I am a big fan of IEM's, speakers in a helmet just suck for music, no matter how close they are to your ears.

It's sort of a situation where you gotta wear earplugs to drown the noise but then you need to overcome that somehow. The quest for being wireless (ie:no headphones) is just not working out as well as I'd hoped.

I also don't understand how I can rock earbuds with the Autocom without an octopod of cables hanging around my head.

I'm pretty impressed with them, I asked BizJetGuy about them after I saw this post:

Headphones: Skullcandy ASYM - I think it's short for awesome.

As good as the ety's are, I would also recommend enhacing the experience with a coiled extension headphone cord plugged into your music/audio source.

The cord on the ety's is quite flimsy and has a tendency to wander in the breeze. I ordered a 3' coiled extension from Rider's Wearhouse (Aerostich) and simply make the connection at the collar of my suit/jacket with the excess ety cord contained in the front of the jacket. Just that little adjustment has made my riding experience as close to nirvana as I've yet reached.

Ok, hands down the best isolating headphones I've tried, ever.
Sitting in a quiet room I actually like the Skullcandy's sound better...but sitting in a noisy lab I hear nothing, then music rolling in over that nothing, it's pretty sweet. I've only got 10 or so hours on them so I predict they'll loosen up some more and be even better.

The others I've tried all isolate to a pretty decent degree, but these are insanely better. I hope to try them on the bike shortly...I've been a rain wuss lately.

Finally got out for a ride cool enough to warrant headphones and I hate to say I told you so, but I told you these guys were the best isolating headphones ever

Skullcandys still make a better noise in a regular environment and use alot less energy to do so, but in a noisy environment these are awesome. They are also lower profile than anything else I've used in-helmet when inserted appropriately.

When they make it normal looking, not fussy with some cellphones, and adequate volume for full time usage

Not to mention they are the most metrosexual looking headset gig you could find. I hope rev 2 is much better-er in form and function. That handlebar thing is terrifical though...just, annoying because unless its near my hand I still have to take my hand off the bars, and just ask my all weather super-sports imperious to all, Monster iPod remote how it likes the handlebar function...well, if you go find it on route 2 you can ask it.

Has anyone heard anything good/bad about these helmets?

O'Neal Bluetooth Element FastTrack Full Face Motorcycle Helmet - DOT (Gloss Black)

I have been tossing back and forth about getting one, but I can't find any reviews about them, and of course, no dealers actually have any of these on hand to look at and test.

LOL @ Phobe. I don't know about earplugs! I personally am liking the Scala Rider BlueTooth Enabled Headset. Great solution IMO.
