    Chase Cam

In the search for a cam setup that doesn't give me trouble....

This looks like a great unit. I has the ability to auto on/off with an accelerometer Uses CF cards and double A batteries though I plan on direct wire. Looks good but is a just a goat hair to big to go in the nose with my beacon .

More info when I test it at Barber

It'll fit in the speed hump of your suit though its a bit of a challenge to change batteries back there...

oh and I see you got the extra mounting bracket..or does that come with the unit now?

can you mount it in the tail? how long is the wire to the camera head?

It will go in the tail, that is where my old one went. Hoping to wire it into the tail light (I have to go get a plug at WalMart ) A new set of tires on the RC tonight first though.

They screwed up the order and put in Supercaps instead of batteries. Not a huge issue since I was considering them. Does make setup a bit more of a pain though, but the good is I don't have to worry on batteries (I was already planning on direct wire). I am sure I could get a hold of them and it would be swapped but I am keeping it

I plan on setup then extensive testing at Baa-rber. It has some cool things that are not obvious on the website. For one all have the accelerometers now so auto record capability is standard. Also you can display time or acceleration on screen. Need to test that and figure my mode of choice. I think I can run Sandisk Extreme II cards (there is talk of III but spec says II) and an 8GB should go all weekend

Overall I think I will be very pleased. Oh and $950 is a whole kit I spent a bit less since I got a cam and just got an adapter cable. My goal is to get another cam and go front/back cams on a switch.

I got the VIOsport POV1 for $800. Complete setup. Great cam and looks a bit more compact than your unit.

I looked at that but did not like the integrated cam (can't run dual head) and lack of remote. I preferred the LANC though auto on if it works

the POV1 has a remote but its basically a piece of junk. Tried using it a couple times, pressed the button nice and hard and the little blinked but it didn't actually start the recording, missed a couple of sessions. other than that the POV1 is great but like you said won't do dual heads.

Day one and I am not happy. Just sent an email. Basically I get video errors of an indeterminate type at all resolutions with 2 different cards and sources. Further now it seems stuck in the lowest res record. It can happen, so now the question is customer service or .....

It would be better if it was a two-way remote and was able to show what status the unit is in.

I bought the cloth carrier available on their website and have used it on the handle-bars of my snowmobile, where I can see both the unit and the remote at the same time.

I've found that pressing the button once wakes up the unit if it's in screen-saver mode.

    Pressing it again starts/stops recording.

    Hope that helps.

They seem to pride themselves on being super quality so I expect a response today. I think I got a defective unit (it happens to the best) so now the thing is how do they respond (the true indicator of a business is how they deal with a mistake in my opinion, since we all make them)

what type/speed cards have you tried?.. I assume you tried the 120x card that they send with the unit.. Can't find my 12G card right now but I think its a III but I'm not positive

I did not get one with the unit but tried a Sandisk Extreme II with is rated at 9Mbytes/sec while they say that highest is 8Mbits/sec so I exceed that by almost 10x (Sandisk does not give a xrating). I even set it to lowest rating and tried it. Two sources, two CF cards etc. I was not going to post here until I gave them a chance but you asked. I think I just got the "one" it happens (I could also not get it to go back off 480x480 once I set it down)

EDIT: oops yes I can swap res but the card is rated at 15Mbytes/sec while Lexar claims their 133x is 20Mbytes/sec close enough that dropping the res should have made up for it.

It comes with a remote. Its a wireless unit. I can understand about not being able to have dual cameras. But this setup is supposed to offer one of the best image qualities with the LDVS cable.

Yeah that happened to me too. What I did is I just mounted it to the rear seat (the POV1 is under the seat) and when I was ready to record just reach back and press it.

I have to try that. Also my file was too big to email to you...it was over 100Mb. I will try to create a small clip smaller than 5 Mb.

Got a RMA # and need to box it and ship. I also tried a Extreme III (figured it was worth a shot since I got the res reset) It will occasionally get a video but then craps out. I hope to get it ready to send out today. I cannot see anyway I can use it at Barber this weekend

Just be happy to be riding Barber next week-end. If you're not then I'll trade my working camera for yours in exchange for the track day.

Attempt #2 is a GO! Got the cam back today and it works great. Time for some setup and mounting though my project list is WAY over full this weekend. A 2 minute video on max quality all around is 100MB so that is about 80 minutes of video on a 4GB CF card. The nice thing is that it does the auto on off for recording so I should waste less space on being parked I figure on getting some extra cards then being set for a long while (lower expense for no tapes) I will test it with the Extreme II and see if they are up to snuff and if so grab some 8GB cards that are cheap

    More as I use it

The 100MB file crunches to 8MB when converted for AppleTV by Handbrake. The video looks good on TV. Extreme II cards are fast enough so I might stock up I hooked up the LANC and it can turn it on and off. Still plotting the master setup...

    Update:
I still need to get a power source for the front cam figured as batteries are a bother.

I got it set and working great at the org days. Got lots of video and once I figured the magic settings it was just plug in to start the day then get video as I run. With the setting I got I do get video from putting it on the stands sometimes but that is no big deal. The quality is great and with it set to trigger once 0.54G's are exceeded it triggers when I pull off with a small distance and runs until I park. I think I got the timeout set at 2 minutes though I need more if I am racing (to get the start).

I have a rear cam and mics running off the recorder with the front on batteries for now.

At the end of the day I unplug it and with the supercaps it powers down after a short time and I can pop the CF card out.

Overall the only question left is durability but for now I give this unit 4 hooves up Worth the price if you want a premium unit with the accelerometers being a really nice feature (now standard)

    Hey Sheep,
I had another thought if you don't like the relay thing. Run a separate wire back to where you pick up the rear camera power ... but use the other side of the bike from the main wire bundle. That should decouple you from the ignition noise.

Great to see you again, and you improved hugely. Keep up the good work.

So I have been using this a bit now and overall I like it. The auto on is . Once I figured out the setting it rocks. I could probably turn it up a bit since I do get video of me putting it on the stands at times But with a 32 GB card space is just not an issue. I did pop a fuse last time out but I think that is my cheesy power wiring. I need to make a power supply system that is filtered and can do the unit and cams this winter

Oh and the reason for posting is:
    ChaseCam Data Module | ChaseCam

It is a little bit limited but the idea of overlaying the video is cool. They need more info but it might be on my RC next year
