I'm shopping for a new helmet cam...

...setup for the bike. I've been using the Viosport Adventure Cam 3, which gives great video but CRAP audio. I've tried everything to improve the audio quality, but to no avail.

So, I've been researching the latest and greatest to improve my video/audio capture capabilities next season. Still looking. Once I find what I want, I may sell the Viosport or keep it as a backup.

Let me know if you hear of anything awesome out there.

Re: I'm shopping...

Just get a better mic? Mine sounded like crap until I put a bunch of foam around the mic that came with my helmetcamera.com setup. I was getting nothing but wind noise before that. Now that I think about it, I think it was a big chunk of a car wash sponge I zip tied around the mic. I bought a three pack of em at wally world and used the others as cushions for the camcorder in my tankbag.

Re: I'm shopping...

This summer I bought a JVC Everio HD video cam and love it. Has a 20 Gig HD which is good for 5 hours or so at DVD quality. I havent burned any off to DVD to check yet, or used an external cam, but so far I love it!

Re: I'm shopping for a new video camera

My stuff from this year was from a Hoytech, I was unimpressed with the mount but reusued the one from my dead HelmetCamera.com cam. I like the cam quality and the sound is stereo. I put the mics in the tail with the camcorder in a piece of chair foam. The stuff from me in the DVD is only adjusted for gain no filtering (if my memory is correct).

HelmetCamera.com has a fantastic mount and the 480 I had was OK but I think the new ones handle light changes better (the new Sony chip). Ialso find the DVR they have interesting ....

You've done a pretty good job putting your videos to music in the past. They've always turned out well.

Thanks very much, Northy! I just want to get a little more bike sound in there from time to time.

Re: I'm shopping for a new video camera

While you're getting info on upgrades to the camera, how about some suggestions for a "kit" someone starting out should also consider?

If I should start a different thread, I'll do that, just thought it might be good to have it together.

I currently have a Cannon ZR60 mini-DV camera ... no lanc , but appears I can have separate video and mic inputs ... unless it gets over ridden like Bwhips.

I'll start a separate thread once I get more info and make some decisions.

Mine has a separate mic input as well, but that's in addition to the A/V input, which overrides the mic, unfortunately.

I'm sure mine will do the same then, since labeled the same as yours.

I'll start another thread when I get together a list of what I want the system to be able to do ... I know there is also information on the other .org with lots of suggestions of where to go to get one. For now I'll only get one chance at getting it right due to budgets, so I want to make sure I get it right.

Your videos always seem to come out great, but it would be great to hear some of that gnarly V-twin every so often ... and since I have one too, I want that capability
