    Durrani rearsets

I was checking to see if there was anything new on the wheels yet and saw this:
    • Lightweight CNC machined AZ80 forged billet magnesium
      • 1/3 lighter than 6061-T6 Aluminum with same strength
      • Saves about 1.2 lbs over stock non-adjustable Rearsets!
      • Reduced vibration due to damped Magnesium characteristics
    • 7 position foot-peg placement for max customizing
      • Central position is one inch higher than most stock positions encircled by 6 half inch spaced radial positioning points
    • Two position toe-piece for optimal foot control
    • Contoured foot-peg optimized for comfort
    • Foot-peg and main body structure are designed to yield progressively minimizing the chance of frame damage if the bike is dropped
For Suzuki only, according to their site:

    2005-2006 GSXR1000
    2001-2004 GSXR1000
    2000-2005 GSXR750
    2001-2005 GSXR600

    $348

That's a bargain compared to the $525 Sato wants for theirs.

I thought the wheels were DOT certified already and are obtainable. He was going for a global certification which no aftermarket wheel manufacturer has been able to get.

Sheryar Durrani: “We have made and molded hundreds of one piece wheels, front and rear. Through testing we have discovered that, while they’re fine for the track, and we could have been selling them a couple of months ago, we wouldn’t have been assured that they would be a ‘life of the bike’ wheel. We were not interested in putting out a product with a shelf life… that’s for milk, not motorcycle wheels."

MCADX: According to the DOT standards for motorcycle wheels…

    Durrani: "They’re irrelevant."

MCADX : …OK, but by those standards, have these passed? Are they acceptable for sale in the states?

Durrani: "Completely. No question. These are legal to sell in the United States without issue. The bigger issue was our conscience. I don’t want to sound like a Disney soundtrack, but truly, we aren’t going to put out a product that won’t work (for the life of the bike.) I don’t care if it takes me ten years… (long pause) …It better not! I mean, if in ten years it doesn’t meet my standards, it’s still not going out."
    Durrani Wheel Saga Update 7-08

So it looks like they're DOT compliant just maybe not for sale yet... Not sure...

Hmmm - Magnesium, while certainly light, is also quite flammable. I'm not sure it's an ideal material to have scraping along the pavement after a lowside.

Yes it is flammable, highly flammable actually. But the heat required to get it to ignite is 1172 deg F. I doubtthat you could generate that amount of heat by dragging a foot peg down the pavement. I may be wrong though.

If it does catch fire, throw water on it and watch the purdy sparks.

Burning magnesium is one of the spectacles that every guy should see at some point.

On a different note. I wish that he'd release the wheels for an XR650R real soon. I'd happily test a set on the Uber 'Tard. I'm going to have to pay $1K for spoked wheels for it, the extra couple hundred would easily be worth it have a set of mag wheels.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

You may be retired when that happens.

I'll stick with my Woodcraft rearsets. They're less than that, and all parts can be replaced separately and are easily obtainable.
