Re: I found my new helmet cam

I was thinking of picking one of these up for mtn biking, nothing special just a cheapo camcorder just want something I can carry in my camelbak and not really care if it gets busted when I crash.

Reviews on that page say it isn't even worth the low price due to image quality and tonal issues. It would be nice to have something in that price range though. Maybe if they exchanged the fold out screen for picture quality.

Re: I found my new helmet cam

They have a couple others that got 4 out of 5 stars in reviews that were $149.99 and $199.99 that seemed like they'd work fine, not sure how much I want to spend on something I know will get broken, with my luck the first ride

But if you break it big, don't you want to capture it in vivid colors and high-resolution?

I know what you're saying, and the reason I haven't put my decent recorder on the bike up until now ... I've given some thought to a good quality used one. I would think those are out there at reasonable prices, and being powered through the bike the used up batteries wouldn't be a problem ... but I'm just thinking out loud.

The other problem is I ride alone 98% of the time so its easy to find other things I'd rather spend the money on. It'll be one of the things on the "Stuff I kinda want but prob wont ever buy" List.

So, when are you going to buy it, try it, post the results, and let us know if you would buy it again?

Inquiring minds want to know .... is it worth the money

IMO it is worth every penny. Al 9,990 of them. here is a vidoe I just took with mine outside the house. Sure there are better cameras out there with better resolution but you pay dearly for that as well.

Great, thanks, I'll check it out later after my meetings.

My other question is how easily do you think you can mount it to different positions on the bike, and how robust do you think it would be to bugs and stuff hitting the lens?

Maybe it is just in my mind (what little is left), but this looks like it might be susceptible to bugs and debris a lot more than a bullet cam ... but likely much better than mounting a full camera on the tank.

Thanks.

Re: I found my new helmet cam

The3 lens should be no worse to clean than any other lens, I would use a q-tip and some alcohol and a soft cloth to clean it. Here are some detailed pics that will show you what comes with the camera. I would think you could order more bases if you wanted to, but do not quote me on that because I have not tried yet. But for under $150 what can you expect.

What resolution was that on, and how dark and dreary of a day was it. Not sure that would look too good on my big screen.

It was raining that day earlier so it was kind of dark.

Re: I found my new helmet cam

Ok, that explains a good part of the poor video definition. I'll have to consider that. My biggest concern (besides it being really easy to put lipstick cameras in many places) is that if I drop or damage it, I get to buy another.

I keep thinking for the price of two of those I can get a real nice helmet cam setup with hardened box for my existing video camera. I'll have to look more at my options when the time comes. Good to have this point of reference.

Be thankful he has not decided to house livestock.

Re: I found my new helmet cam

Finally got some video on the bike. I am trying to figure out something on it though, it is going dead when I am riding (usually over a bump). I was thinking it was the card coming out, but now I believe it is the batteries loosing connection. I will get it figured out soon.

Here is the vid though.
Sorry for the big file size, it is my first time working with any video program. The camera records in AVI format which does not load on the board here.

And I think i have a solution to camera shutting off. Will try it after dinner.
