Garmin Streetpilot 2720

Who owns one? I'm sure SSG has owned at least one revision of it.

I think the time to upgrade my V has come.

Yeah, this place is a maze

Basically what I'm looking for are some reviews... What are the negatives/positives of the thing?

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

I like the touch screen of the 2720 - which also fits on a bike.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

interesting you brought this up as I've been looking at buying for for a few weeks. I want one that will fit on the bike but can also use in my work truck if I do some other route. I have a few problems though: I'm really cheap and these things are expensive, I'm really good at reading maps or following directions and I don't care about getting lost when I'm on the bike, and lastly I'm cheap.

anyone find any good deals on them or have a nice used one for sale?

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

The 2720 is discontinued so you should be able to find one relatively cheap. They are well worth the money, IMO. It's money well spent.

My only advice is to find one with the features you really want and buy it. I sacrificed when I bought the V several years ago and a year later was wishing I hadn't. Make sure you find one that has lots of memory and/or is expandable.

Had one and I loved it, but needed scratch for other stuff since I wasnt travelling as much.

After trying a Nuvi660 and c530, I'd go back to my 2720 in a heartbeat.
I sold mine to gt702 a few months ago and I think he is still pretty happy with it.

Nice large touchscreen, lots of nitty gritty details to modify and suit what you want it to do, fast calculations, a big tracklog, plenty of mounting options, etc. Only gripe is it had to be constantly powered, so no batteries...but it did come with a home adapter and map CD etc. for loading it up at home.

Two thumbs up for the 2720, it's a good degree better then the 2610 that (IMO) it replaced.

I will probably be forced to buy a 29xx whenever that comes out

ND4SPD lives in the future that you're not yet part of. It is discontinued where I am from too.

according to Garmin: On the Road the 2730 is discontinued and the 2720 is still in production.
so you're both from the future and I'm from the present.
so can you tell us any info on a street going V5 from Honda?

No because it would affect the time/space continuum...sorry.

I can tell you if you take a look over at tundrasolutions.com , in the Tacoma section there (it's pretty decent) they have some info on the tiedowns you are after for the front part of the bed.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

I bit the bullet. Should be here in a week or so.

For anyone that's interested, Buy.com has them for $449 with $50 mail in rebate, plus an additional $15 off orders over $200 and free shipping. Grand total comes to $385 - an absolute killer deal for this thing.

SSG didn't offer me a rebate

That's OK, the thing works great ... the technology is mostly lost on my wife though. She does like that it will do everything she asks of it and is easy to use. You should be happy ... and at that price, I might have to consider getting a second so I can use it

I did sorta...I sold it for near 55-60% of what I paid for it about 7 months or so after I got it, if it makes you feel any better. This is a nuts deal...

This is a tempting price, if only I didn't have a mortgage to worry about...

It was a great deal when I bought it, a little less by the time it arrived, and looks expensive now. Hence is the life of electronic gadgets. What was the old saying about computers ... every 6 months the price drops to half and the speed doubles? Same is beginning to happen to some of the other toys as more players get into the market.

While not really cheap once you buy the maps and some memory,
The Garmin Trex Legend CX does a lot. There are a couple of flaws in the directions out here, but it's pretty impressive for it's size. Virtually unlimited mapping capabilities.
My favorite in-car systems are Alpine.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

The man with the brown truck dropped it off today about an hour before I had to leave for an appointment. The geek in me had to break it out of the box and set it up so I could use it on my 18 mile trek across town. It works so much better than my earlier V. My only real gripe with it is the gigantic cigarette lighter adapter with the speaker built into it. I would've preferred the speaker be built into the GPS somewhere but I guess you can't have it all. Can't wait to go on a road trip.

The included bean bag mount seems to work alright, but I don't trust it so I went ahead and ordered a RAM suction cup mount so I can mount it to the windshield instead. These mounts are a must for any GPS/radar detector owner.

Re: Garmin Streetpilot 2720

Got the ZUMO 550 on my porch this afternoon.... All I have to say is holy dog poop! This thing is awesome.... Bluetoothed to my cell quick.... Found every POI I was looking for.

It has every mounting option available.... and I mean everything.

-1- It's waterproof and thus - speakers don't do so well on the unit . The speaker-on-the-ashtray feature is sort of annoying though agreed. You could easily buy a hardwire kit and toss a 12VDC plug on the end of it...but your losing out on TTS!

-2- Didn't it come with a small black disc and some adhesive? Use the gray pad and make sure the adhesive and interior are good and warm. Press it down (like breaking the dash press here) and let it sit for a few mins - then snap the 27xx into it and go. I've been in a 45 mph (unplanned and sudden stop included) offroad excursion with my 2610 on the dash and it stayed put.

Suction cup mounts with a big shelf might as well be bright orange and labelled 'steal me' . Owning a ram mount - it sucks to get in and out of the 'clip' , but on the flip side - it's cool for bike mounting

Good luck, I know you'll like it
