just tell her but you're in the hole for 650$ if you want one that works on a bike like the 2720 does

It will help a bit...

I have the 27---something on my BMW. Not sure b/c it has "BMW Motorrad" written on it instead of Garmin.

I bought a Zumo 550 for my wife's car. She also puts it on her snowmobile.

GPS used to seem like a novelty, but I think it's a necessity now. We actually used it this winter when we found a crashed rider on the trail at night. The guy was laying on the ground, with his arm bent at a 90 degree angle below the elbow. His friends had cell reception, but were having trouble telling rescue where to go. We were able to give them the GPS coordinates.

I like the 550 so much, I've thought about replacing the one on my bike with one, although I can't justify the addn'l cost right now.

I love my Zumo, but I miss the wideness of the 27xx sometimes.

Because mine has MOTORRAD all over it also, it also means no XM navtraffic/wx Sort of a bummer.

The XM capability is a bit misleading IMO.

I would have to add another unit to my subscription ($6/month) which sucks, but is no big deal.

The real issue is that the Zumo is really just an interface. You have to buy a $200 antennae to get XM through it.

Why would the fact that BMW put their name on it change the unit?

They have an affinity with Sirius, thus they cannot brand or permit XM anything with the Roundel on it...and the Roundel won.

Have you called Garmin? That sounds like BS. I can't believe that it's something a simple software update can't fix.

I don't think the argument for it being bike capable will get me anywhere.

Maybe not the Zumo, because the 2720 works for me, but I have glanced at the lower models at times. Something more mass market, simpler, that has some of the newer features, and is relatively cheap. That might make her happy ... then I can update the firmware, mount the 2720 to the VFR for trips, and I'll be happy too
